Walter Woernle Jr. Notice

Walter Woernle, Jr., 73, of Baltimore passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2016 at his home in the Dominican Republic with his wife by his side. Walt was born on July 3, 1942, in Baltimore, the son of the late Walter and Rosalie (Haberkorn) Woernle. He graduated from McDonogh High School in Owings Mills and from Susquehanna University in PA. He took over the daily operations of the family print shop (The Holliday Press) from his father as a young man on Belair Rd., which he eventually sold and transitioned into selling vitamins as a Shaklee Distributor. During this time Walt also made a personal decision to follow Jesus Christ as his savior and joined a small gospel trio group (The Crusaders) traveling throughout the MD, DE, VA area singing at various church services; which eventually led to cutting a record in Nashville, TN. Walt lost his first wife (Candace Fink Woernle) to a car accident in 1981, and moved to Florida with three of his children in 1983. He entered back into the printing business for several years in Florida where he met and eventually married Mary Ann (Fischer) in 1988. Walt and Mary Ann retired and moved to the Dominican Republic in 2010. Walt loved the outdoors which included family fishing trips to the Canadian wilderness or body surfing at Ocean City. He usually took every opportunity he could to play tennis, which he was very good at. Walt especially loved people and did his best to make everyone, family, friend, stranger feel welcomed and at home in his presence. Walt is survived by his wife, Mary Ann and her two children, Justin Yoder and Raina Nelson of Florida; his sons, Matthew Woernle and his wife, Denise of Virginia, Marc Woernle and his wife, Deb of Indiana, Michael Woernle and his girlfriend, Jean of Baltimore; his daughter, Melinda Dowdy and her boyfriend, Kennie of Florida; his sisters, Wendy (Woernle) Keller of Baltimore, and Jo Anne (Woernle) Dudley of Virginia; and 5 grandchildren. He was cremated in the Dominican Republic and will be laid to rest at a later date with a memorial service to be held in Baltimore for the immediate family.
