William Wendler Notice


William Frank "Bill" Wendler, 88, passed quietly on Saturday, August 22, 2015 Born June 1, 1927, in Philadelphia, PA, he was a long-time resident of Phoenix, Maryland in Baltimore County before moving to Hilton Head, SC in 1993. Bill retired from HR Simon and Company in 1991 and had previously worked at the Noxell Corporation. A graduate of the US Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) in Great Neck, NY he had a life-long love of boats and the water. A WWII veteran, Bill rose to the rank of Lieutenant, JG - serving his country by sailing on oil tankers around the world during that conflict. He was an avid baseball fan and found great joy in coaching youth baseball, playing golf and tennis and catching blue crabs. Bill was also an enthusiastic fan of Coach K and the Duke Basketball program. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ann Wendler, daughters Jane McIlvaine and Sally Bauer and son Chip Wendler, sister Ruth Yeager, grandchildren Lindsay Stazzone, Jennie Corbett, Andy McIlvaine, Chloe Wendler, Katie Wendler and great grandchildren Anna Stazzone and Will Corbett. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Broad Creek Care Center at TidePointe who took care of Bill's needs during his final weeks. A private memorial service for family members will be conducted in the coming days.
