John Edmund Kosloski, 93, passed peacefully into the arms of his Heavenly Father on April 16, 2014, at Greater Baltimore Medical Center, Towson, MD, after a very brief illness, his loving son by his side. He was the devoted husband of Dorothy Elizabeth (nee Cox) Kosloski. The couple would have celebrated their 64th anniversary on June 24, 2014. Son of the late John and Constance Eugenia (nee Ugiss) Kosloski. John was born in Mt. Carmel, Northumberland County, PA, on July 15, 1920, son of a coal miner. Music consumed his early life where he played the flute, piccolo and saxophone in marching bands and town bands throughout Northumberland County. He and his older brother, Ed, had a dance band, "The Syncopaters" that played big band music and were very popular. Following graduation from Mt. Carmel High School in 1938, John enrolled at Casey Jones School of Aeronautics in Newark, New Jersey, one of the earliest schools of aviation. He graduated with a technical degree and moved to Baltimore, MD to take a job at the Glenn L. Martin Company. In Baltimore, he rented a room with two of his school buddies, Johnny Pritchard and Irwin Barr at the home of William Cox, his future father-in-law. John was drafted into the Army Air Force on June 16, 1944 at Fort Meade,, 10 days after the D-Day invasion. While his older brother, Ed, now a music teacher, conducted the Army Air Force band in Carlisle, PA at the War College, John trained on the ground crews of the B-29 Superfortress bomber, the first ever computerized bomber. His job was to train all crew members on the operation and maintenance of the ordinance systems. After the war he married his love, Dorothy, on June 24, 1950, and had four children, Dorothy Johann Garey and her husband, Everett Hopkins, III, Mary Elizabeth Forney and her husband, Allen Ronel, John William Kosloski and Ann Louise Perry and her husband, Mark Francis. John went on to work at NASA on the Gemini program and AAI Corporation in Cockeysville, where he reitried at age 68, after a long and varied career. His grandsons, Adam Lyle Rock, David Allen Forney, Brandon James Hamrick, Joseph Allen Forney, Jesse Allen Forney, and granddaughter's, Allie Nicole, husband, Thomas Christian Reeves, will all serve as pallbearers. He is also survived by his 10 great-grandchildren with three on the way! His legacy of love and faith lives on in his family. John was preceded in death by an infant child, a brother, Edmund Kosloski, and a sister, Eleanor Carroll. A viewing will be held Wednesday, April 23 from 1 to 3 pm and 6 to 8 pm at J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary, Inc., 24 N. Second St., New Freedom, PA. A funeral liturgy will be held Thursday, April 24, at 11 am from St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, 315 N. Constitution Ave., New Freedom, PA 17349. Burial will follow immediately at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens, Timonium, with military honors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church at the address above or the Diabetes Foundation, , 150 Monument Road, Suite 100, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004.
