William Robert Wolfe Notice


Mr. William Robert Wolfe, age 82, of Ellicott City, passed away at the Gilchrest Hospice Facility, in Columbia, on August 05, 2014 after a 6 year battle with pancreatic cancer. Bob was born on July 05, 1932 in Sunnybrook, MD to John Ross and Emma Shelley Wolfe. He is survived by his sister Betty Rae Wirtz, nephew Rick Wirtz and his fiancée Teresa, nephew Kevin Wirtz and his wife Natalie, his grand nieces and nephews, sister-in-law Betty Ann Wolfe, and long time friend, Jack Wineke. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Norman. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1954 - 1956 and stationed at Fort Jackson, SC and in Naples, Italy. He spent most of his working life in a number of different financial institutions in the Savings and Loan industry, holding numerous positions including CFO, CEO, and finally Compliance Officer at the time of his retirement from Chase Manhattan Bank. He attended Mount Vernon School of Law and graduated in 1969. He passed the Maryland Bar examination in February, 1970. Bob later worked for the Social Security Administration, as a management analyst, from 1991 - 1999. He was elected to the Board of Directors of the Security Federal Credit Union and served a three year term from 1995-1998. Bob has continued to serve as a volunteer on the Finance Committee of the SFCU. Bob has been a long time member of the Free State Theatre Organ Society, serving as a Director, President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the organization. He has been an active participant in the reconstruction of a major theatre organ which was to be installed in the main hall on the campus of the Spring Grove Hospital Center. He loved playing the piano and organ, traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family. His family expresses their gratitude to the many doctors, nurses, and staff of the JHMI for the outstanding care they gave him during these last 6 years. They are also greatly indebted for the enormous support of his friends Diane, Susan, Mary Jane, Todd, and Gene who made themselves available in so many ways. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8pm, on Friday, August 08 at the Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home, Inc., located at 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City, MD. Funeral services will be held at the Chestnut Grove Presbyterian Church, 3701 Sweet Air Road, Phoenix, MD on Saturday, August 09, 2014 at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, friends may wish to make a donation to the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins by sending a check to the W. Robert Wolfe Memorial Fund, c/o Chesapeake Bank and Trust, 245 High Street, Chestertown, MD 21620 or to the Free State Theatre Organ Society, attn: Bernie Kuder, 13333 Redcoat Lane, Phoenix, MD 21131.
