Howard J. HOOD Notice
HOOD , Howard J. Hood, Howard J. age 93, passed away peacefully on Saturday February 2, 2013. Howard was preceded in death by his sister Eleanor Williamson and his brother's Jack and Al. He joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and went to Parachuting School at Fort Bragg, N.C. He was stationed in the South Pacific as a member of the 503rd Parachute Infantry Regimental Combat Team. After being discharge from the U.S. Army, he attended Duke University graduating in 1949 with a B.S. in Economics. He worked first as a mathematics teacher then as a disability claims adjustor for the Social Security Administration. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and an active member of the Boumi Temple Shrine in Baltimore until his health failed and he could no longer participate. Howard never married, but he loved children and would take vacation every year so he could work at the Shrine Circus selling popcorn and peanuts. Also for years, he was the lead Guidon for the Boumi Drum Corps. He is survived by the "Love of his Life" long time companion Audrey Rhodey and her family; brother in law of Jane Hood, nephews Jim Hood, Terry Hood and Ellis Nolley and nieces Susan Anspacher, Vicki Lewis and Pam Melton and their children.
