Notice Condolences

MCDORMAN , R. Donald On March 31, 2013, R. Donald McDorman, 96, of Baltimore, and later Chestertown, died at Courtland Gardens in Baltimore. A son, Robert D. McDorman, Jr. of Naples, FL and Baltimore, MD; and a daughter, Margaret M. McKisson, of Leesburg, VA survive him. Four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren survive. His sister, Esther Stone, of Asheville, NC also survives him. He graduated from St. Paul's School for Boys in 1933. He attended Washington College, and transferred to Johns Hopkins University/Peabody Institute. He received Bachelors of Science degrees from both in 1939. He served in the US Navy from 1942 to 1945. He was an Anti Submarine Warfare Officer on the USS Blessman with the rank of Lt. (jg). The Blessman's officer roster lists him in Normandy on June 6, 1944 and in Iwo Jima on February 16, 1945. From 1939 to 1942, and again after World War II, from 1945 to 1953, he was a faculty member of St. Paul's School for Boys and Organist and Choirmaster at the Cathedral Church of the Incarnation. From 1953 to 1972, he was the Organist and Choirmaster at Old St. Paul's Church and a member of the faculty at both St. Paul's School for Boys and St. Paul's School for Girls. Donald and his wife, Fredrica, retired to Chestertown, MD in 1972 where he taught music at Kent School from 1972 to 1978 and later started the Radcliffe School's Drama program.
A memorial service will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, June 22, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Chestertown, MD. Donations in his memory may be made to the Fredrica and Donald McDorman Scholarship Fund at the Radcliffe Creek School, 201 Talbot Blvd., Chestertown, MD 21620.
