David Coleman Fullarton Notice


David Coleman Fullarton, age 80, son of the late Nancy Harriott and Gregg Fullarton , died on January 24, 2014 at his home in Summerfield, Florida under the care of his loving wife, friends, and Hospice of Marion County. He was preceded in death by Dorothy Schiavone Fullerton (wife) and Jean Fullarton Flynn (sister). He was born in 1933 in Chicago, IL, but lived most of his life in Maryland, and later Savannah, GA, before retiring to Florida. He recently celebrated his 80th birthday with twin grandchildren who shared his birthdate in 2013. Dave served in the United States Navy from 1953-56. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a degree in Electrical Engineering with high honors and later obtained an MBA from Florida Atlantic University. He also attended George Washington University Law School. Honors achieved during college included membership in Tau Beta Pi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Phi Eta Sigma Fraternity. In Washington, DC, he was employed as Executive Vice President with National Telephone Cooperative Association from 1962-1984 where he was successful pushing through national legislation regarding rural telephone cooperatives. He also served as the advance man during presidential campaign for Hubert Humphrey. Professional honors included serving on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and Washington Society of Association Executives. He was given the ASAE Key Man Award and ASAE Management Achievement Award. Dave continued to work for non-profit associations until he was 78. In Ocala, FL he was Executive Director of the Marion County Homeless Council. In Summerfield, FL he served as a consultant to Evangelical Bible Mission-Family Care Givers. In Savannah, GA, he was Executive Director of United Ministries of Savannah which was dedicated to serving the homeless and near homeless, and Executive Director of Chatham Association for Retarded Citizens. In Washington, DC, he was President of Information Industry Association and CEO of International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He was also an instructor for ASAE's University of Maryland Development Program and United States Chamber of Commerce Institutes for Organization Management. Dave had a passion for playing golf, reading, watching Horation Hornblower DVDs and growing roses. He especially delighted in spending time with his family at the beach each summer. He served as an Elder at Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church, Savannah, GA, and at Ft. King Presbyterian Church, Ocala, FL. He is survived by his wife Marianne, his son David, his daughter Christine Klein (Eric), and son Kenneth (Jeanne), sisters Nancy Fullarton Seidl and Jane Fullarton, and five adoring grandchildren; Megan Fullarton, Sydney Klein, Jordyn Klein, Thomas Fullarton and Olivia Fullarton.

A Funeral Service will be held at the family owned Ruck Towson Funeral Home, Inc. 1050 York Road (Beltway Exit 26A) on Tuesday, February 4, at 10:30am. Inurnment for his final resting place will be at the Baltimore National Cemetery date to be determined. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to a veterans group of your choice or Make-a-Wish Foundation.
