Diane Mary Magruder

1945 - 2015

Diane Mary Magruder passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 8 at 12:45 p.m. in Newport, RI, embraced by her three daughters holding her hands. Born Jan 17, 1945 Diane Mary Callaghan in Winchester, Hampshire, United Kingdom, to parents Gladys and Albert Callaghan. Diane's adventurous nature brought her to the U.S. in 1963. Her marriage of 30+ years to James Magruder blessed her with 3 cherished daughters. She was best known as a caring and selfless person whose passion was to make sure her family and friends were taken care of. Diane loved adventures and traveling the world with those closest to her. She will also be remembered for her strength, infectious smile, love of holidays and cooking up traditional family favorites. Diane was active in her community, a member of The British Wives Club, a founding member of a spiritual book club, and shared her love of music and dance with friends. Brother, Michael, predeceases Diane. She leaves behind daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Brian Karney, daughter and son-in-law, Nichole and Cameron Appleton, and daughter Kelly Magruder; 4 grandchildren Declan, Brennan, Ella and Blake; sisters Judy, Susan, Mary; brother David; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at Harry H. Witzke's Family Funeral Home, Inc., 4112 Old Columbia Pike, Ellicott City on Sunday, July 12, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 13, 11 am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Good Shepard Cemetery, followed by a Celebration of Diane's life to be held at her home. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to the ALS Foundation in Diane's honor.
