Arnold died peacefully with family at his side at the great age of 90 years. He was born in Karlinowka, Poland (now Ukraine), the first son of Robert and Berta. The family arrived in Canada on June of 1930 to homestead in the Ballentine, AB area. They arrived just as the Great Depression was starting. Those early years of deprivation had a very lasting effect on his life as it did with others of this age. In 1950 he married Lydia Breitreutz and together they settled on their farm in the Meadowview area, a few miles away from the homestead. In 1979 Arnold and Lydia retired to Barrhead. Dad spent his "retirement" years building houses, working at the Alfalfa Plant and helping his children with their many projects. Arnold is survived by his loving wife Lydia of 64 years, his 2 daughters; Linda (Leonard) Andrews of Chilliwack, BC; Jane (Robin) Upham of Airdrie, AB; 3 sons; Garry (Kelly) of Calgary, AB, Ron (Judy) of Mill Bay, BC and Arthur of Airdrie, AB. His grandchildren; Christina Upham, Robbie (Paulina) Upham, Elaine (David) Elson, Amy Todd Larson, Cathy Andrews, Allan (Leah) Andrews, Kurtis Bobke and Nowel Bobke; great-grandchildren, Bobby and Grace Elson and Ava Larson as well as many nieces, nephews and many dear friends. Arnold will be remembered for his generous spirit, sense of humor, his love of being in the wilderness and great passion for fishing, hunting and berry picking. Arnold loved his family and farming. He was predeceased by his infant son Larry in 1954, brothers; Herb and Louis as well as sisters-in-law Yvonne and Carol. Loved and missed, home with God. A Celebration of Life was held on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Barrhead Church of God in Barrhead with Pastor K. Blackmore officiating.
