Danny "D.C." Parten, age 67, of Statham, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
An Athens native, after graduating from Athens High School he continued his education at Athens Technical College where he received his electrical degree. Danny joined the Air Force in 1966 to serve his country for four years where he received numerous recognitions. Afterwards, he worked for Bell South 32 years prior to retiring. He was actively involved in the Cumming Lions Club, President of the Statham Booster Club, The Statham American Legion, a devoted Mason and a member of Statham Masonic Lodge. He was also an extremely influential role as a coach of the Statham youth baseball and football teams. He was a firefighter/paramedic who reached the rank of assistant chief of Statham Fire Station and Chief of Holsenbeck Fire Station in Barrow County. He was also an accomplished scuba diver, serving as a member of a scuba search and rescue team. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. There was not much he could not do or had not done. Danny was a very determined, loyal, devoted, successful and extremely respected perfectionist, but even more than that he was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was preceded in death by: his mother, Ruby Davis Parten.
Survivors include: his wife of 49 years, Charlotte Yarbrough Parten of Statham; his children, Tiffany Parten Beatty (Kyle) and Clay Parten, both of Statham; four grandchildren, Abby, Justin, and Emma Beatty and Christian Parten; father, R.C. Parten of Winder; brother, Ricky Parten; and three sisters, Peggy Parten, Janie Vaughn and Teresa Trammell.
Visitation will be held from 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday, February 8 at Smith Funeral Home. At his request, a graveside service will be held 4 p.m. Sunday, February 9 in Barrow Memorial Gardens with Rev. Ned Davis officiating.
