Vernon Carl Snyder, 67, of Winder died Friday, September 21, 2012 in Winder.

Born August 15, 1945 in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Carl Albert and Edna Florence (Brocious) Snyder. He was a United States Army Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict. In April 2000 he married Dolly Burkett-Lingenfelter, she survives. Vern was a member of the Winder First United Methodist Church. His hobby was operating the Ham Radio. He enjoyed his cats, and especially his cat O'Malley. Preceded in death by three brothers, Bill, Ezra and Don Snyder; three sisters, Bernice Doverspike, Ann Sherry and Judy Kanis; three brother in laws, Tom Kanis, Paul Doverspike and George Smith.

In addition to his wife he is survived by: four step children, Ruth Shaffer and husband Bob, Joyce Stephens and husband Steve, all of Coolspring, PA, Michael Lingenfelter of DuBois, PA, Robert Lingenfelter and wife Karen of Lawrenceville; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; two sisters, Leila Smith of Punxsutawney, PA and Susan Bole and husband Ron of McKean, PA; three sisters in law, Geneva Snyder of Fairborn, Ohio, Louise Snyder of Edinboro, PA and Donna Snyder of Clarion, PA; and one brother in law, Robert Sherry of Florida.

Friends will be received from 2 – 7 p.m., Wednesday, September 26 at Shumaker Funeral Home, Inc., 115 East Union Street, Punxsutawney, PA. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 7 p.m., Wednesday, officiated by Pastor Michael Garvey.
Military honors will be accorded by the Jefferson County Veterans Honor Guard.
