Gene Richard Stinchcomb, First Sergeant, U.S. Army, Retired passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013.

First Sergeant Stinchcomb was born July 29, 1927 to the late Giley and Essie Stinchcomb. He served in the U.S. Marines and U.S. Army in China, Korea, Vietnam, and Germany, as well as all over the United States. During his 22 years of service he served as a Rifleman, Postal Inspector, Aircraft Maintainer, and First Sergeant, receiving numerous awards and decorations. 1SG Stinchcomb retired in 1972. He moved back home where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing and playing his guitar. He entertained at various locations in town. Music was a great love of his and he could play and sing for hours on end. Gene was a member of Trinity Baptist where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by, 2 granddaughters, Laura Hawkins, and Katie Landers; 2 grandsons, Joey Wallace and Michael Andrew Barrett; 4 sisters, Runell Pursley, Lona Mae Sanders, Martha Belle Garrett, and Helen Collins; and 3 brothers, Joe Allen, Robert, and June Bug Stinchcomb.

Survivors include: Faye Stinchcomb; 5 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, Velma Hawkins, Debra and Ralph Landers, Margie Larson, Jo Ann and Jack West, and Betty and Roger Burlingame; 2 granddaughters, Shannon Chambers, and Crystal Burlingame; 8 grandsons, Stan Healan, Josh and Jonathan Larson, Donnie Wallace, RB, Garrett, Jason, and Caleb Burlingame; 11 great granddaughters, Hope, Faith, Ava, Kloey, Lindsey, Maddie, Hannah, Kendra, Alyssa, Brylan, and Ava; 4 great grandsons, Isaiah, Zackary, Brody, and Levi; and 3 brothers, WL. (Bill), Randolph, and Tommy Stinchcomb.

Visitation was Sunday, October 20 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, October 21 at Memory Chapel, Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Richard Cole officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, Gene requested you vote Republican.

The family would like to thank the staff at Winder Health Care and Evercare Hospice for all the superior and loving care given to Gene during this illness.
