Alvin Hugh Gray Jr., age 69, of Statham, passed away Wednesday, February 5, 2014.

He retired from the United States Navy after 20 years of service. He also retired from Athens-Clarke County after 33 years serving as a fire fighter and a communications officer. He was a member of the Statham American Legion. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Alvin Hugh Sr. and Eunice Mae Aaron Gray; and a grandson.
Survivors include: his wife, Rita Gray of Statham; three sons, Kelly and Scott Gray of Belfair, WA, and Brandon Hicks (Melissa) of Commerce; six daughters, Tammy Frost (Gregg) of Belfair, WA, Sharon Goodwin (Mike) of Port Orchard, WA, Cheryl Ahart (Trace) of Canton, Sandra Brooks (Frank) of Bishop, Eileen Martin (David) of Winder, and Amy Sims of Winder; two brothers, John W. Gray (Beverly) of Athens and Charlie L. Gray (Jerre) of Statham; a sister, Mary Gregory (Gary) of Arnoldsville; 19 grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, February 9 in the chapel of Smith Funeral Home with Rev. Howard Conine officiating.
