Dr. Douglas D. Keller Sr., 81, of Bastrop passed away on December 8, 2013. Dr. Keller was born in Bastrop to Douglas and Annie Keller on April 5, 1932. He was married to the late Martha Brown Keller also of Bastrop.

He graduated Loyola School of Dentistry in New Orleans In 1957. He worked as a General Dentist in Bastrop for 50 years. He served as President of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry, President of the 5th District Dental Association, was a Fellow in The Academy of General Dentistry and retired staff member of Morehouse General Hospital. He was involved in Lion's Club, Christ Episcopal Church and served in many other Civic and Professional organizations. Dr. Keller and his wife Martha were founding directors of Word-of-Mouth: Oral Health Connection, a non-profit dental outreach organization. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy. Dr. Keller retired from his dental practice in 1997 where he practiced with his son, Dr. Doug III.
Dr. Keller truly loved his community and his profession where it showed through his involvement, commitment, and compassion, especially to his patients. He was a dedicated father, husband and friend. Douglas was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed many years spent fishing and hunting with friends and family, especially his brother-in-law, the late Dr. Jerry C. Johnston of Ruston.
Dr. Keller is survived by his sister, Joann Keller Johnston of Ruston; his daughters, Ann Keller Chambers and Nancy Keller Anderson and husband Greg; his son, Dr Doug Keller III and wife Natalie; grandchildren, Lani, Sarah and Paul Chambers, Jared Cook, Erin Cook Turner and Chloe Keller. Also, a very special friend and companion, Louise Reardon.
Memorial services for Dr. Keller will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2013 at Christ Episcopal Church in Bastrop with the Rev. Edward M. Head officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of fellowship in the Christ Church Parish House immediatly following the memorial services. Interment and committal services will be private for the family at Christ Church Cemetery, Bastrop.
