Funeral services for Eugene Franklin "Gene" Wise, 88, of Bastrop are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday, January 22, 2009 in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery under the direction of Golden Funeral Home.

Mr. Wise passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Lagniappe Healthcare in Bastrop. He was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church, a retired employee of International Paper Company with 27 years of service, a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, who served in World War II and Korea, and a faithful Sunday School teacher for 43 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings and his first wife of 57 years, Verdee Wise.
Mr. Wise is survived by his wife of 13 years, Christine McLean Wise; two daughters, Sheila Ruffin and her husband Hurshel of Bastrop, Susan Barringer and her husband Mike of Monroe; three grandchildren, Amber Welch, Brooke Barringer and Joshua Barringer; two great-grandchildren, Jordan Hemphill and Jase Welch; three stepchildren, Barbara Moore and her husband James of Shreveport, Marsha McIntyre and her husband Kary of Bastrop, Edwin McLean and wife Elise of Chapel Hill, N.C.; five step-grandchildren, Alan McIntyre and his wife Dorla, Kim Johnston, Michael McIntyre and his wife Renee, Len Verrett and his wife Jana, Sophia Szentes; seven step-great-grandchildren, Eric McIntyre, Jason McIntyre, Robert Verrett, Christopher Verrett, Alex McIntyre, Connor McIntyre, and Christian Johnston.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until service time Thursday at Golden Funeral Home.
