Gloria Holden passed on to her Lord and Savior peacefully early on September 2, 2010 in Oklahoma City, Olka. She was born February 3, 1928 in Monroe to Arthur Bernard and Lola Brimberry Carroll and grew up in Oak Ridge. Gloria earned two degrees in music from LSU as a piano major, first her BM in 1949 and then her MM in 1952. She taught piano at several schools for two years in Louisiana before teaching at the Radford School for Girls in El Paso, Texas. She met her future husband, Ken Holden, while in El Paso. They were married in 1955 upon his return from the Korean Conflict. During their 55 years of marriage they lived in several states, while on various geological assignments including Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Georgia, North Dakota and Oklahoma. Gloria is survived by her loving husband Kenneth Allan Holden; daughter Linda Carroll Holden Howard and husband Robert Duncan Howard of Edmond, Okla., son Roger John Holden of Hanover, Pa. and daughter Lisa Kathryn Holden and husband Kirk Eugene Beatley of Washington, DC; grandchildren Lindsay Christine Howard, Marci Holden Howard, Julia Carroll Beatley and Trevor Holden Beatley; and numerous other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Col. Arthur B. Carroll and his wife Peggy. Gloria had a wonderful outlook on life and was caring and thoughtful, and was always thinking of others. She was a joy to all that were around her. A celebration of her life will be Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., September 5, 2010 at Westminster Presbyterian Church Chapel. Dr. Randall Spindle will be the officiating minister.
