Funeral services for Mr. Harvey C. Echols will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with the Rev. Allan Eppinette officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Sunday January 10, 2010 at Cox Funeral Home.

Harvey Charles Echols was born July 18, 1918 near Monticello, Ark. to the late Don and Nettie Echols. He passed away Friday, January 8, 2010 at the Cherry Ridge Guest Care in Bastrop. Mr. Echols was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Mylinda Burks Sims; and eight siblings. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and a survivor and eyewitness to the attack on Pearl Harbor. He also retired from the Single Service Division of International Paper Company.

Mr. Echols is survived by his wife Mabel Jordan Echols; his four children, Charles W. Burks and wife Pauline, Nettie Echols Cartwright and husband Finley, Nancy Echols Moore and Chuck Echols and wife Sharon; and 14 grandchildren, Becky Parks, Jay Sims, Jennifer Haroon, Lisa King, Charlie Burks, John Burks, Mary Dempsey, Melissa Dempsey, Michael Echols, Daniel Echols, Molly Echols, Leigh McCready Gass, James McCready and Carol Carwright Hatcher.

Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons, Jay Sims, Charlie Burks, John Burks, Michael Echols, Daniel Echols and James McCready.
