On November 20, 2014, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt left this earthly plane to be with her Spiritual Father. Imogene Cox Mardis was born March 23, 1928 in Shawmut, Ark. to the union of Otis and Cora Wright Cox. She was a devout Christian having membership and fellowship with the Central Church of Christ. Imogene was a retired nurse with Morehouse General Hospital.
Funeral services will be led by Pastor Daniel Cook on Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at 10 a.m. at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Interment and committal will follow at Christ Church Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Imogene is predeceased by her parents; a brother Bernis Cox; her two sons, Howard T. Mardis and Perry L. Mardis; and four great-grandchildren, Codye Mardis, Tyler Madison, Hunter Johnson and Hannah Johnson.
Ms. Imogene Mardis is survived by her daughter, Loisann Mardis Johnson and her husband, Johnny Johnson; daughter-in-law, Jackie Mardis; six grandchildren, Jay Johnson and his wife, Gina, Julie Beckley and her husband, Steve, Shelley Madison, Stephen Johnson, Eric Mardis and his wife, Mandi, and Matthew Mardis and his wife, Courtney; ten great-grandchildren, Abigail, Mark, Dakotah, Madison, Rainey, Austin, Caden, Wyatt, Cameron, and Cole. She is also survived by her two brothers, Roy Cox and Basel Cox; two sisters, Jessie Branscum and Virginia Pike; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends. Great-grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends beginning at 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, November 24, 2014 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
