Funeral services for Mr. Joel Davis, 84, will be 2 p.m. on Saturday September 17, 2011, at Wayside Pentecostal Church near Winnsboro. Officiating the service will be Revs. Wayne Smith, Keith Smith, and Buddy Buie, eulogy will be by James Osborn. Interment with military rites will follow at Coax Cemetery under the direction of Gill First National Funeral Home Winnsboro.

Mr. Davis was born in Winnsboro on May 4, 1927 and passed from this life on Wednesday Morning September 14, 2011 at Franklin Medical Center after a sudden illness.

He was a native and resident of Franklin Parish, past resident of Bastrop, retired heavy equipment operator with International Paper Mill; served with the United States Navy during WWII and a member of Wayside Pentecostal Church. He was a devoted husband, loving daddy and papaw, and loved his Faith and Country.

He is preceded in death by: His parents Luther E. and Josie Bradley Davis; a daughter, Brenda Ruth Davis Perkins; as well as six siblings.

He is survived by: His wife of over 64 years Gloria Wollerson Davis of Winnsboro; his daughters - June Davis Buie and husband Rev. Buddy Buie of Calhoun and Joelene Jackie Davis Pickens and husband Gerry Pickens of Vidor, Texas; a son-in-law Tim Perkins of Boerne, Texas; his brothers G. A. Davis of Monroe and Eugene Davis of Maryville, Tenn; also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Davis' grandsons. Caleb Smith will serve as honorary pallbearer.

Visition will be held from 5 until 9 p.m. at the church and from 10 a.m. until time of service.
