Funeral services for Michael Wayne "Mike" Jordan are scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop. Reverend Terry Jordan will officiate the services. Committal services and interment will be at the Mer Rouge Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home.
Michael Wayne Jordan was born April 14, 1964 in Kansas City, Missouri and he passed away at his home in Bastrop, surrounded by his family, on July 22, 2014. He is preceded in death by his father, Travis Lee Jordan; step-father, Alvin Atkins and , step-father, Lyle Hopkins; two nephews, Brandon Skipper and Clay Burch; mother-in-law, Betty Burch; and grandparents, Lonnie and Era Jordan and George and Inez Cowden.
Mike was a member of the Bonne-Idee Assembly of God. He graduated with the Ouachita Parish High School Class of 1982 and later served as a police officer with the Village of Mer Rouge and as Canine Officer for the Morehouse Parish Sheriff's Department. Mike also served in both Iraq and Afghanistan as a police advisor. An avid outdoorsman, Mike dearly loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Oak Grove Deer Club in Stamps, Ark., the Bussey Bass Club, Bastrop Bass Club and the Rod-Benders Bass Club.
Mike is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vicki Burch Jordan of Bastrop; his daughter, Caitlyn Jordan O'Daniel and husband, Derek O'Daniel of Bastrop; mother, Jean Hopkins of Oak Grove; four siblings, Lisa Hughes and husband, Dennis Hughes of Oak Grove, Ronnie Atkins and wife, Dewanna of Mer Rouge, Pam Wiegard of Overland Park, Kan., and David Jordan and wife, Robin of Georgia.
Serving as pallbearers are friends and fellow fisherman, Roland Crymes, Randy Aaron, Larry Powell, Brandon Johnston, Bobby Dull, Wesley Streeter Jr., Ronald Dement and Grady Rhinehart.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on both Wednesday, July 23rd, and Thursday, July 24th, at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.
