Memorial Services for Mildred Ware Shackelford, 83, will be held, at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at the Christ Episcopal Church in Bastrop with Father Jim Benbrook officiating.

Mrs. Shackelford, a lifetime resident of Morehouse Parish, passed away January 26, 2009. She was born January 23, 1926 in Holden. Mrs. Shackelford was in insurance trade as a secretary; she worked for the S. Alvin Leopold Agency and C.N. Dalton Agency for 17 years and later owned and operated Delta Real Estate and Insurance.

Mrs. Shackelford was a member of Episcopal Church. She was active in various civic clubs including Business and Professional Women and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority in Bastrop. Playing bridge was one of her favorite pastimes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Craig Shackelford; parents, Cora M. Willie Ware and Louis Elmore Ware; son ,Douglas Festus Brewton Jr.; brother ,Eugene Avery Ware; and sister, Nelda Ware Caldwell.

She was survived by her daughters, Mary Nelda Brewton Floyd and her husband Don of West Monroe, Rose Anne Brewton George and her husband Mike of Collinston; five grandchildren, Peyton Douglas and Shelby Floyd of West Monroe; Erin George of Baton Rouge, Christine George of Thibodaux and Douglas Michael George of Collinston; two nephews, Garey Ware and Jeff W. Caldwell of Bastrop; and one niece, Laney Ware Heusel, Mer Rouge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Christ Episcopal Church of Bastrop, National Osteoporosis Foundation or to a charity of the donor's choice.

A special thank you to the staff of West Monroe Guest House who so lovingly cared for Mother over the last four years.
