Funeral services for Mrs. Peggy McDaniel of Bastrop will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop with the Rev. Britt Dupree officiating. Interment will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the McDaniel Family Cemetery near Kelly. Visitation with the family will be held from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the funeral home.

Peggy earned a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering at Louisiana Tech University in 1951, becoming the first woman to do so at this university. She followed this profession through the manufacturing of munitions, chemicals and paper for her working life, with only a short break at which time she taught chemistry, physics and algebra at Bastrop High School. She was always concerned with the welfare of the state and nation and to this end, found time to become involved in the early formation of a Republican Party in this area, holding various local and state positions.

Peggy was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Rogers of Jonesboro.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, John A. McDaniel; her brother, Will Rogers of East Hartford, Conn.; three children, Karen Morrison of Austin, Texas, Susan Brown of Tulsa, Okla. and Emmett McDaniel of Monroe; eight grandchildren, Michael Morrison, Matthew Morrison, Jennifer Morrison, Stephanie Massey, Dustin Brown, Aaron McDaniel, Zachary McDaniel and Samuel McDaniel; and five great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mrs. McDaniel's grandsons.

For those who wish, the family suggest memorials be made to Premier Hospice of Bastrop, 1513 Texas Avenue, Bastrop, La. 71220 or to the charity of one's choice.
