Funeral services for Raymond Smith "Buddy" Barnett will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at Second Baptist Church in Crossett, with the Rev. Lloyd Townsend and the Rev. James Flemming officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2011, at Second Baptist Church. Burial will follow the service at Arkadelphia Cemetery under the direction of Cromwell Funeral Home of Hamburg, AR.
Mr. Barnett, 73 of Hamburg, AR., died Saturday, December 3, 2011, at his country home in Hamburg, (Crossett Camp Community). He was a native of Crossett, a resident of Bastrop for 35 years, and a resident of Hamburg for the past two years. He was a retired construction worker and a member of Second Baptist Church in Crossett.
Mr. Barnett was a 1959 graduate of Crossett High School. Upon graduation, he received an athletic scholarship to run track at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. While working at the Crossett Sawmill during the summer after graduation, he cut his foot on a saw blade and never got the opportunity to attend the university. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting with his squirrel dog Diamond, and he also loved fishing.
He was preceded in death by: His parents, William Dewey and Angie Rosalie Blissett Barnett; a brother, Cardell Barnett; and two sisters - Mammie Nugent and Johnnie Mae Bostic.
He is survived by: His wife of 35 years, Eileen Coleman-Barnett, two sons - Raymond Robert Barnett of Houston, Texas, and Brian Coleman of Bastrop; three daughters - Rita K. Barnett of Hamburg, Amanda Parker and husband Chad of Sterlington and Stacey Cornville of Bastrop; three sisters - Inez Bell and husband J.C. of Pennington, Ala., Hazel Andrews Townsend and husband Lloyd of Crossett and Mary Beth Edgar and husband Jimmy of Hamburg; as well as eight grandchildren, special friend, Frankie Harris, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Serving as pallbearers will be Roger Andrews, Hank Harris, Kent Harris, Chris McKenzie, Jeremy Andrews, Carl Harris, Donnie McKenzie, and Steve Bostic.
