Robert Rene' Ouellette was born Sept. 9, 1929 in Berlin, N.H. to the late Silvio Rene' Ouellette and Marie-Helene' Robichaud, and he passed away on Dec. 21, 2014 at Lagniappe Health Care in Bastrop. He was raised in a French speaking home and was taught English in the first grade. His youth was spent in Berlin and later Cohassett, Mass. After graduating, he joined the Air Force where he was at one time stationed at Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City. It was here he met his wife, LaWanda. They later settled in Bastrop and joined LaWanda's family business, Spillers Oil Company, where he became President and co-owner.
Bob was always interested in having sports programs for the youth. For his work in helping establish the Little League baseball and football programs and in the purchasing of the land for Carter Park, he was awarded the Community Service Award in 1968. He was also awarded the Optimist Club's "Bob Harp Award" for his long standing work with the youth programs. He and several other men, including Albert Spillers, were responsible for establishing the Bastrop Boy's Club in the 1960's. He was a life-long member of the Optimist Club and past-president of the Morehouse Country Club. Many people remember Bob operating the clock for all the Bastrop High School basketball and football games in the 1960's. He loved sports, especially playing golf, and LSU football. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, LaWanda Stevens Ouellette; his sister, Olivette Velardo; and his brother, Antonio Ouellette.
Bob is survived by his daughter, Cindy Bennett and husband, Mike, and his son, David Ouellette and wife, Kay. He was a proud granddaddy to his four grandchildren, Chris Bennett and wife, Tracy, Tessa Stutts and husband, Jason, Shawn Ouellette and wife, Megan, and Derek Ouellette and wife, Christine. He was known as "Grand Bob" to his beloved eleven great-grandchildren, Miller, Emma, and Davis Stutts, Manning, Max and Miles Bennett, Connor, Josie and Allie Rae Ouellette and Annabelle and Scarlett Ouellette. Also left to cherish many happy memories with him, is his special friend, Phyllis Grant.

The family would like to thank Dr. Carter Cox and the nurses and employees at Lagniappe Health Care for their wonderful care, the love and concern they gave him.
