Funeral services for Samuel W. "Sammy" Gentry of Bastrop will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday April 28, 2010 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with the Reverends Britt Dupree and Barry Brister officiating. Interment will follow at the Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 - 8 p.m. Tuesday April 27, 2010 at Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop.

Samuel W. Gentry was born October 29, 1942 in Sikes to the late James Lavell Gentry and Exie Thompson Gentry and he died Sunday April 25, 2010 at Glenwood Medical Center in West Monoroe. He was a member of the Central Baptist Church of Bastrop and an avid fisherman spending many days of retirement fishing on Caney Lake. Sammy inherited and was blessed with a knowledge of carpentry skills. He was well respected for his craftmanship and quality of the numerous homes he constructed.

Sammy is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Carolyn Takewell Gentry.

Sammy is survived by his two sons, Tab Gentry of Bastrop and Todd Gentry of Monroe; sister, Sandy Gentry Pearman and her husband Parker Pearman of Ferandiana Beach, Fla.; three grandchildren, Whitney Gentry, T.J. Gentry and Taylor Gentry; three step-grandchildren, Trey Owens, Brandon Clifton and Madison Clifton; two nephews, Shane Cain and his wife Jennifer and Justin Cain; and a beloved friend, Mary Kathern Bostick of Bastrop.

Serving as pallbearers are Ernie Heckford, Ferrell Bostick, Todd Ryder, Trey Owens, Dewayne McKnight and Phillip Lester. Honorary pallbearers are Mark Bolding and Jerry Stephenson.
