Funeral services for Mrs. Verleta Pilgrim, age 79, of Granger, Texas, and a former resident of Bastrop for the past 27 years, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2009 at the Pine Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. James Moffitt officiating. Interment will follow at the Bonita Cemetery under the direction of Cox Funeral Home, Bastrop. Visitation with the family will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday August 11, 2009 at the Pine Grove Baptist Church in Bastrop.

Verleta Turner Pilgrim was born April 16, 1930 in the McGinty Community of Morehouse Parish to the late Henry Turner and Fannie Porter Turner. She passed away Sunday August 9, 2009 in Granbury, Texas followning a long illness.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 27 years, Grady Slack and her husband of 31 years, Wilson Pilgrim; and four brothers, Dotson, Lavelder, Cubee, and Robert Turner.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lee Woodall and her husband, Don of North Richland Hills, Texas and Carla Yoxtheimer and her husband, Clinton of Granbury, Texas; two step-sons, Tommie Pilgrim and his wife Teresa of Hamburg, Ark., Jerry Pilgrim and his wife, Arlene of Ward, Ark.; three step-daughters, Ann Knight and her husband, Johnny of Hamburg, Ark., Shirley Webber and her husband, Bill of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Nadine Velasques and her husband, Mike of Hamburg, Ark.; two brothers, Levi Turner and his wife, Wilma of Bastrop and Jeff Turner and his wife, Bonnie of Riverdale, Ga.; three sisters, Audrey McBroom of Stephensville, Texas, Irlamae Keirsey and Jimmie Sivils and her husband, Stanford all of Bastrop; three grandchildren, Tonya Delcerda and her husband Mike of Keller, Texas, Jeff Woodall of North Richland Hills, Texas and Betty Jo Collins and her husband, Colby of Granbury, Texas; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Serving as pallbearers are Roland Crymes, Pete Crymes, Butch Crymes, Bub Crymes, Charles Babb and Ronald G. Turner.

The family of Verleta Slack Pilgrim would like to thank each and every one of you for the many acts of kindness and expressions of love shown to us during our time of grief. God bless all of you, The family.
