Funeral services for Mrs. Verna Delilah Sanders, 93, of Swartz will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 30, at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop with the Reverends Harold Thomas and Trey Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Concord Cemetery near Oak Grove. Visitation with the family will be held from 10 a.m. until time of service on Friday at Cox Funeral Home in Bastrop.

Verna Sanders was born in West Carroll Parish on August 6, 1916 to the late Ben and Estelle Thomas. At the time of her death she was a resident of the Avalon Place Nursing Home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. For all who knew her, she was a constant source of strength and encouragement. Her life was spent devoted to God and her family.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 71 years, Mack Sanders; sisters, Annie Carroll, Mary Dell Jones; and grandson, Don Royce Tyson Jr.

Survivors include her daughters, Maxine Tyson, Vicki Husted and husband Billy of Monroe; grandchildren, Tonya Tyson Moore and husband Trace, Tami Tyson Cobb of Monroe, grandson Clarke McRae Williams III of Baton Rouge; great grandchildren, Rachel Moore Deliberto, Emily Moore, Joel Cobb, Garrett Cobb of Monroe and Lauren Cobb Snelling of Wales. Survivors also include her brother, Mack Thomas of Oak Grove; sisters, Alice Wallace of Bastrop, Gloria Taylor and husband Lonnie of West Monroe; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pallbearers will be Joel Cobb, Garrett Cobb, Trace Moore, Vinnie Deliberto, Don Carroll and Roger Simonson.

The family would like to express their thanks to the caring and dedicated staffs of Avalon Nursing Home and Hospice Care of Louisiana. A special thanks to Daphne Thomas and Kendra Edwards for all their loving care.
