Wayne Douglas Shows, 79, of Lake Charles, La. died Saturday, August 15, 2009 in a local hospital. Mr. Shows was born in Bogalusa and has lived in the Lake Charles area for the past 10 years. He was a 1947 graduate of Bogalusa High School. He was a graduate of Southeastern La University in Hammond where he received a BA degree in 1956. He also attended Tulane University, where he took graduate courses from 1958-1959.

Wayne served in the United States Air Force from 1951-1954 as an Air Traffic Controller, Education Specialist and Technical Instructor. Mr. Shows served as a personnel officer for Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans from 1957-1964. He was employed with Morehouse General Hospital in Bastrop from 1964-1983 as the Hospital Administrator.
Wayne was a member of several different professional organizations and held many offices including Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Secretary and Trustee of the Louisiana Hospital Association, President of the Northeast Louisiana Hospital Council, Chairman of the Blue Cross Liaison Committee, served on the Board of Directors of the North Louisiana Health System Agency in Monroe, served on the Advisory Board for the Louisiana Blood Center in Monroe and the Southwest School of Health Careers in Kenner. He served on the Advisory Committee Task Force on Excessive Government Regulation in Baton Rouge, and was a member of the Hospital Licensing Council, American College of Health-Care Executives, and the American Academy of Medical Administrators.
Mr. Shows also served in his community as President of the Morehouse Parish Chamber of Commerce in Bastrop and the Morehouse Parish United Way in Bastrop, as Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce in Bastrop, and served on the Board of Directors of the Morehouse Parish Chamber of Commerce in Bastrop, Orleans/Morehouse Parish United Way, Morehouse Country Club, Northeast LA Society for Crippled Children and Adults in Monroe, Northeast Louisiana Girl Scout Council in Monroe and the Private Industrial Council in Lafayette. He was also a member of the Lions Club, Moose Club and the American Legion.
Mr. Shows was preceded in death by one son, Wayne Douglas Shows Jr.; and his parents, J. Douglas and Lucille Switzer Shows.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 57 years Lura Mary Landry; daughter Dr. Ginger Anne Shows; son Steven Douglas Shows and his wife Kathryn; and grandson Alexander Douglas Shows, all of Lake Charles; two brothers, Donald R. Shows and his wife Delores of Cypress, Texas, R. David Shows and his wife Frances of Silsbee, Texas; and brother in law James J. Landry and wife Joan of Metairie, La.; step-grandsons, Michael Sachs and Nicholas Sachs of McAllen, Texas.
Mr. Shows' funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. Harry Grieg officiating. Interment will follow in Consolata Cemetery. Visitation will begin on at 11 a.m. Wednesday until the time of services.
