On May 13, 1943, a baby was born was to Ruthie Mae Brown and the late Breard Burks of Oak Ridge. To this child was given the name Wesley Burks. Wesley spent a great deal of his childhood in Oak Ridge with his family and friends. He was raised by his grandparents, the late George of Mable Brown, also of Oak Ridge.

Funeral services for Wesley, 68, will he held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2011, at the New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Bastrop with burial following at the Jerusalem Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, August 26, 2011, at Tennant's Funeral Home in Bastrop.

A construction worker, Wesley died on August 22, 2011.

He leaves to cherish his radiant smile and kind, loving ways: A devoted and loving mother, Ruthie Mae Brown Sawyer; two daughters - Tonya W. Burks and Erie U. Burks, both of Houston, Texas; three sons - Alton Robinson of San Antonio, Texas, Orson Edmonds of Dallas, Texas and Craig Smith of Houston, Texas; a god son, Travarious Reed of Lake Charles; six sisters - Yvonne Smith, Earl Rean Swayer, Brenda Thirdkill and Hilda Sawyer - all of Bastrop - evangelist Alice J. Hubbard of Pennsauken, New Jersey and Maria Burks of Los Angeles; a brother, Breard Burks of Los Angeles; as well as 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

The family extends it's special thanks to Jerome and Sheila Faye Batiste for their love and care.
