Funeral services for Mr. W.R. (Billy) Humphreys will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2011 at the Chapel of Cox Funeral Home of Bastrop with the Rev. Dalyn Hebling officiating. Interment and committal services will follow at Bonita Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Friday, January 14 at the funeral home.

William Ray Humphreys was born October 8, 1928 in Bonita to the late Hosie Henry Humphreys and Beatrice Halbrook Humphreys. He passed away peacefully on January 13, 2011 surrounded by his family at Oak Woods Home for the Elderly in Mer Rouge.

Mr. Billy was a member of the Bonita Church of God, a retired grocery owner of Hopkins Grocery in Bonita, a fur trader and farmer.

Mr. Humphreys is survived by his wife Mrs. Mavis Humphreys of Bonita; his son, Dwain Humphreys and his wife, Elizabeth Humphreys of Thayer, Mo., his daughter, Joycelyn Hopkins and her husband, Ronald Hopkins of Bonita; five grandchildren, Fran Winningham and her husband Barron Winningham of Bossier City, Holly Farrar and her husband, Gerald Farrar of Collinston, Brian Hopkins and his wife, Molly Hopkins of Bastrop, Mike Humphreys and his wife Julie Humphreys of Hernando, Miss., and Jan Rubado and her husband, Steve Rubado of Florida; his brother, H.H. Humphreys and his wife Alma Humphreys of Bonita; two nieces, Betty Elkins and Phyllis Shanas; and fourteen great-grandchildren.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mike Humphreys, Brian Hopkins, Barron Winningham, Gerald Farrar, Ron Elkins, and Bob Shanas. Honorary pallbearers are Donald McIntyre, Jerry Spikes, and Cecil Harvey.

For those who wish, the family suggest memorials be made to either the Bonita Church of God, First Church of God of Bastrop, or to the Oak Woods Home for the Elderly.
