Emmie Jean Hogan Ray, formerly of Bastrop, was born on September 26, 1937 and on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 while surrounded by her loving family and in the comfort of her home in Garland, Texas, she went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Emmie grew up in Bastrop where she met and married Harold Gene Ray. Soon after their marriage in 1955, they moved to Garland, Texas where they made their home and raised their three daughters. After 22 years of service, Emmie retired from Garland Independent School District in 2001. In September of 2005, Emmie and Harold celebrated 50 years of marriage shortly before his death that following November. Emmie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin who enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving, kind and gentle lady who always found the good in others. Emmie was loved dearly by all who knew her.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harold Ray; parents, Lloyd Van and Birdie Harris Hogan; siblings, Varnis Harden, Jake Hogan, Judith Ann "Floyie" Hickman and husband Robert,all from Bastrop. Emmie is survived by her daughters, Ramona Ray Cartwright and husband, Phil of Wylie, Texas; Michelle Ray Dalton and husband, Grant of Keller, Texas; and Denise Ray Nixon of Garland, Texas; special nieces, Jeannine Hickman Shepherd of Wylie, Texas and Cheryl Orr Moreland of Wylie, Texas; siblings, David Hogan, Steve Hogan and Judy Marshall of Bastrop; eight grandchildren, Tanner Gregory, 12 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whom she loved dearly.
Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 25, 2014 at Restland Wildwood Chapel in Dallas, Texas.
