BEVERLY MERRITT Obituary
Beverly Roettinger Merritt beloved wife of John E. Merritt for 59 years. Devoted mother of Jennifer (Greg) Duncan, John E. (Jackie) Merritt III, Nicole M. (Jim) Wheeler, Matthew Merritt, Christina Merritt, Joseph A. Merritt (Jennifer Malott) and Patrick (Jenni) Merritt. Loving grandmother of Gregory and Zach Duncan, Morgan, Courtney and John Merritt IV, Brittany, Samantha and Jimmy Wheeler, Nevin and Kiara Malott, Griffin and Nathan Merritt. Dear aunt of Denny (Nancy) Nagel, Dave (Debby) Nagel and their families and Mary Pat Werner. Died Jan. 22, 2014. Age 81.
Born to Joseph and Lucielle Roettinger on April 10th, 1932, Beverly grew up in the South Cumminsville neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. It was there that she attended Garfield Elementary School, and right away forged lasting and lifelong friendships. She and this group from grade school nicknamed themselves, ?The Garfield Girls? and throughout her entire life, Bev enjoyed their gatherings and special times together.
Bev attended Hughes High School in Cincinnati and earned her Bachelor?s Degree in English from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. On September 4th, 1954, Bev married the love of her life, John, whom she started dating when she was fifteen years old. After graduation from Miami, she went to work at Proctor and Gamble for five years. With the birth of her first child, Bev left P&G and began to raise her family, which over the next eleven years grew to seven children. Despite being a full-time mother, Bev dedicated herself to helping others through her volunteer work as a teacher?s aide. When the time was right, she began a full time teaching career at St. James School in White Oak, and always provided strong support to her family and student?s academic and athletic endeavors.
Bev and John raised their seven children together, always at each other?s side, for their entire marriage of over 59 years. Although a modest and humble person, Bev was always extremely proud of her loving family.
Beyond being an extraordinary wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, teacher, and friend, Bev was widely known for being the scorekeeper for countless baseball and basketball games her husband John voluntarily coached over several decades. She was famous for her encouraging phrase of ?Always good with two!? which she would cheer when there were two outs in an inning. More often than not, her optimism would lead to a rally, and before you knew it there was an extra hit, an extra run, and a win.
Bev loved life. She had profound love and faith in God. She deeply loved her family and friends. Her love for animals, especially her pet dogs, brought her great joy. Bev?s genuine concern for those around her, her constant smile and positive attitude, and her ability to make those around her the center of attention, and not herself, will always inspire all of us who were privileged to know and love her.
Visitation Friday, Jan. 24th from 4:00 ? 7:00PM at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home 5527 Cheviot Rd. (near North Bend Rd.). Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, Jan. 25th at 10:00AM at St. James Church (White Oak). Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children?s Research Hospital or to the John E. Hey Grandma Merritt I know it’s been a very long time since I’ve last talked to you. But I just came across the beautiful necklace that was made from flowers from your funeral and a wave of sadness came over me. You never owed my family and I anything but you gave us everything. Thank you for being the Grandma I never had and truly loving me when you didn’t have to. You will always be in my heart and I tell everyone about you, you really left a mark on me! My life has changed a lot, and I hope I’m making you proud! Say Hi to Grandpa for me, I miss him just as much. My heart is so happy you guys are together again. Hi mom, I know I´m a day late writing this doesn´t mean I wasn´t thinking about you yesterday on your birthday. Tell grandma happy birthday too please. Just wanted to thank you for being such a wonderful selfless beautiful person inside and out. You are a fantastic role to us all! As you always said you wouldn´t send us pennies you would send us dimes because you were worth more than a penny. You´re worth continues to go on and on. Because of the dimes that your children have been collecting or finding we purchased quite a few animals to help feed people in Third World countries. It was your shining example and generosity to heifer international that lead the way. You will never be forgotten nor will dad, you both live on and on each and everyone of us. Just typed a message to Dad saying how much fun the Reds are right now and thought of you.
Remembering when Dad would yell down the hall all upset because Larkin, or O’Neal just hit into a double play. Probably one of his teams took an L earlier in the day as well having something to do with the yelling. LOL.
Always remember your positive attitude as an adult mom. You have no idea how much that has rubbed off on me with how I am to this day with my family. I know I have a lot to work on and do, but I am damn glad I had you to show me how to treat others the way you always did.

It has been a while. The Holiday season is around the corner and know you and Dad are always on our minds. We miss you both so very much. We held the annual pumpkin carving contest again and there where some very talented entries. Brit and Greg and Pat and Jeni had 2 very cool ones and they didn’t even win. The Duncan’s took the entire podium. Matt and Chris had a very creative one of the middle top picture in the den. Your ember that one I bet. Shannon and I did one and so did Zach but no glory this time.

We are going out tonight to celebrate and hopefully that will take his mind off of tomorrow. 5 yrs since you left us. What amazes me is it is so clear how devoted you both were to each other and that you two were truly the best of friends. I love you mom and I know you will help us all where and when you can. Hi momma. Today was Dads birthday as you know. We went to mass and then all got together for his day and some of the other winter birthdays. He misses you soo much. It is hard to believe that tomorrow it will be 4 years you have been gone. I know where I was 4 years ago about this time mom. Hi mama visited you the other day just to say thanks for Dads results, my good work news, and again how wonderful of a life I have with our family. I know you know how my world is and how blessed I feel I am. Please also know mom how much I miss you your advice your laughter your loving heart and just your voice. I always miss you...and as you can see, so do the rest of us. Dad especially. Thank you for looking over Dad and for the good news he received, and I know you will be with him during this surgery and recovery. Please watch over all of us...especially Gregory as he returns to Miami for his senior year, and my Zach, as he starts college, and Greg as he works so hard every day. Help me to cope with such an empty house. It's really hard to think about. Bless John as he searches for work, and little John as he heads off to college, and Nevin too. Help Kiara, as I know she misses you so. Chris and I walked around down here and found a little courtyard with tables and shade which we knew you would have loved. It was so peaceful. Dad said he will probably come down next year. I love you and miss you, my mommy, and know you will continue to watch over us all. Help Gregory with his transitions and decisions he will be facing, too, please, and please watch over him on his trip to Chicago. Well, 2 years have gone by Mom and I can't tell you how much Dad and all of us miss you. You are on our minds this week as it was Dad's birthday and then today was the day you passed. All of us kids and Dad are sad but we know you are looking over us Mom. I love you and miss you mamma.

Dad goes back real soon for a scan mom and he could sure use some good news on this topic... You know he will be worried and scared, but won't tell us. I went through some of your things last night at the house, Mom. I found some little things like receipts that you saved because of the special gift they were...I do that, too! I miss you so much Mom, and every day I seem to see a robin that lets me know you are here with us. I wish i could hear your voice. I hope you liked your flowers and Mother's Day card....I tried to choose flowers that you always liked. Gregory told me on Mother's Day that you called him in his dream and talked to him...and that you had a golden retriever with you but he didn't know which one it was. R.J.? Clipper? I know they are all with you. How's Yankee? He has a birthday coming in August, you know!!! Oh yeah, I also was by Home Goods and I know you wanted me to buy something....but I found something we'd both like in TJMaxx next store! Thanks!

Jenny brought you flowers Mom. She used rocks from Dads new place to help weigh the cup holding the flowers down. Dad said that out of the blue Scout came in from outside and he brought a rock into the house. Scout then dropped the rock from his mouth at Dads feet. Jenny and Dad put the rock into the cup so Scout could be a part of the flowers on your grave too. Dad said he never remembers Scout bringing a rock into the house. Chance maybe but not Scout.

We all miss you tremendously mom but are comforted in the unconditional love you gifted to each of one of us. Yesterday was your birthday, and how I wish I could have had the ability to hear your voice, share a laugh, and just catch up with you. You would have called me honey, and made it a point to make me feel special, even though of course it was your day. Fortunately, I see and hear you in my heart and in my mind. I know you never far away. I see you in every member of our family, and in myself. And that reflection is something that, put simply, is pretty remarkable. Love you always, Mom. Visited yesterday mom, we also got together for your B-Day last night. We all went to Ron's Roost. Dad told us how you guys would eat there sometimes . We love you and miss you so much mom.

I miss you every second, Mom. What a privilege to be your daughter. Thank you for being the most amazing mother a child could ever have. We will take care of Dad, but we are counting on you to do the same. Your Bunny loves you and misses your smile and laughter, your wisdom and kind words, your guidance and comfort.
