Davy Robertson Obituary

Davy William Robertson, 68, of Roanoke VA passed away peacefully on Friday, April 13, 2018 at Grand Strand Medical Center in Myrtle Beach, SC with his brother and former wife by his side.  Davy was a strong man who had successfully undergone five open heart surgeries to replace heart valves injured as a result of rheumatic fever.  He tried valiantly, defying the doctor’s earlier prognosis, but could not win the last battle with liver and kidney disease.

Davy was born on July 15, 1949 in Roanoke, VA and spent his early years in Roanoke and in Gadsden, AL. Davy graduated from Cave Spring High School in 1968 and attended Virginia Tech until illness forced him to postpone his college career.  Later, Davy obtained an Associates Degree from Virginia Western Community College.  Davy became a licensed architect in the Commonwealth of Virginia on October 4, 1985 and was a member of the American Institute of Architects.  Davy worked for architectural firms in Roanoke and Virginia Beach in the 1980s through early 1990s.

Davy moved to Charlotte, NC in 1995 to work with Little and Associates obtaining his national architectural certification (NCARB).  Davy accepted a position with Freeman White as a Construction Administrator where he earned certifications as CSI, CCA and CBST.  In 2007, Davy started his own company, A Closer Look Thermography, where he performed commercial building structure imaging and continued his Construction Administration work on a contract basis.

Davy’s church family was important to him.  He was a proud member of the First Baptist Church Choir where he loved singing each week.  He especially enjoyed the annual Christmas and Easter events.  Davy loved to fish, participating in many Bass tournaments throughout NC, SC, and Virginia.  Davy also volunteered with the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad and with Salem Rescue Squad for over twenty years of combined service.

Davy was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Dillon Robertson and by his father, William Donaldson (Scotty) Robertson of Roanoke, VA.  Davy is survived by his son, Davy L. Robertson of Blacksburg, his brother Carlile Kent Robertson of Roanoke, VA, his former wife, Mary Lou Robertson of Surfside Beach, SC, former wife Dottie Killinger of Roanoke, VA, his close friend Billy Simcox of Huntersville, NC, special cousins Phyllis Zorn and Joyce Witt of Vinton, VA, and by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.  Davy also leaves behind many dear friends from his First Baptist Church family, his co-workers at Freeman White and earlier companies where he was employed, and many personal friends.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at Oakey's South Chapel, 4257 Brambleton Avenue, Roanoke. A Celebration of Davy's Life will be held at noon on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Oakey's South Chapel with Pastor Donald "Eugene" Mills Jr.

To the family and friends and family of Davy Robertson, Rick and I became friends of Davy shortly after he rented a unit at our facility. He was one of the most caring and compassionate person we have met. He will be terribly missed. May God bless and comfort you in this time of sorrow.

My thoughts and prayers go out to Davy's family. He and I worked side by side with the construction of a multi-family apartment complex in Blacksburg, Virginia. I could always count on him to be cheerful and have a smile on his face - no matter what he was facing. He worked so hard to ensure that everything was done correctly and to code. He was one of a kind. And I was blessed to have known him and worked with him. One of a kind - definitely.
