Deborah Hawkins-Rodman Obituary

Deborah Ann Hawkins, 63 of Charlotte, departed this life and returned to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, May 09, 2021 at Levine & Dickson-Huntersville, NC where she passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on October 20, 1957.  She was the youngest daughter to Robert Hawkins Sr. (preceded her in death) and Jane Hawkins (preceded her in death).

Debra as she was best know to her family and friends, was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA.  She graduated from William Penn High School.  She attended and was baptized at the Garden of Prayer in Philadelphia, PA.  Debra was a talented ballet dancer, she was featured in local newspapers, and tv shows in the Philadelphia area where she showcased her many talents in dance.  On August 3, 1973, Debra gave birth to her only child Latisha Sherell Hawkins affectionately known as Tish with her former husband Keith Michael Hogan (preceded her in death).  Debra enjoyed holding dance class with her daughter Tish and her niece Vhillisia Hawkins along with many of Tish's friends.

Debra was a longtime resident of both Philadelphia, PA and Charlotte, NC.  Debra enjoyed her career in Social Work with the Mecklenburg County Department of Social Services.  She later transferred to Allstate Insurance as an insurance adjuster.  She was a dedicated and involved member of Victory Christian Center and later with Beverly Smith Ministries.  She made a profound impact at both houses of worship with her warm heart and infectious smile and love of the Lord.  Debra loved spending time with her beloved daughter Tish who she shared a very close bond, along with her grandchildren whom she loved dearly Sierra, Keith, Gabby & Tyler and her beautiful great grandsons.

Debra was beautiful, talented and outgoing.  She was the epitome of class, style and grace which she learned from her mother Jane Hawkins.  Anyone who she encountered was always greeted with a smile and a God Bless you! She loved the Lord and loved her family dearly.  She spoke often about growing up with her big sisters Francenia (preceded her in death), Mylinda and Dinah, and her many adventures with her brothers Mark (preceded her in death), David, Robert Jr., and Joshua.  Debra was a beautiful person, with a loving and kind heart and everyone loved her.  She will forever be missed dearly.

Debra leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her fine memories: her daughter Latisha Sherell Hawkins; Grandchildren, Sierra Hawkins, Keith Wilson, Gabrielle Hawkins, Tyler Reid, Great Aunt Rita Bristol, Sisters Mylinda Hawkins Jones and Dinah Hawkins.  Brothers, David Hawkins, Robert Hawkins Sr., and Joshua Hawkins, Sister-in-Law, Layfeyette Hawkins. Beloved Nieces and Nephews, Vhillisia Hawkins, Vernon Hawkins, Douglas Adolphus II, Davone Adolphus, Sabrina Hawkins, David Hawkins Jr., Shirine Hawkins, Joshua Hawkins Jr., Kareem Hawkins & Jeremiah Hawkins and Great Nephew Trent Jones, and 7 Beloved Great Grandchildren, Izel Jones Jr., Cedric Jones, Dennis Jones, Noah Jones, Knowledge Jones, Legend Jones, Sevyn Jones.  As well as a host of family and friends who she loved dearly.

Debra was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.  She will be forever in our hearts and minds.

I love you Deborah and I am going to truly miss you, good friends like you were to me are hard to find even though we had just met each other, it seemed as if I had known you for a life time that's how comfortable I was talking to you. I never thought or could imagine not being able to hear your voice anymore. But I know and believe you are in better place.

Rest in peace my sweet friend until we meet again.
