Dorothy Dutz Obituary

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Dorothy Dutz, our loving mother, grandmother and friend.

Dorothy possessed a special beauty and joyfulness that she shared with everyone she met. She enjoyed making everyone smile with her bubbly personality which reflected her colorful clothes and glamorous jewelry. Upon hearing of her passing, a dear friend remarked that "Dorothy was a sassy, smart, lovable lady. She took everything that was thrown at her with such grace and spirit."

Although arthritis confined her to a wheelchair, her hands stayed strong from crocheting every day. She made lap blankets for veterans at the VA Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre as a testament to their brave service.

Dorothy treasured her children and embraced every moment with her son, Bernie and his wife, Diane; daughter, Jeannine Blase and husband, Fred; daughter, Dedy Billig and husband, Brian; and son, Danny. Her seven loving grandchildren, Charlie, Lexi, Gina, Tori, Ricky, Brian and Marisa, will miss her warm embrace and bright spirit.

Dorothy's parents, Bernard and Mary Dunoski; her husband, Eugene; her son, Joseph; and her grandson, Adam, preceded her in death.

Dorothy will be honored during a memorial Mass at the family's convenience.

Memorial donations may be made to Holy Annunciation Monastery, 403 W. County Road, Sugarloaf Twp., PA 18249.

To the Dutz family -
I'm sorry for your family's loss and send my sincere condolences to all, even though they come a bit late. I just happened upon a Kanishock history and noticed Dorothy's name. I googled her and the obituary came up.

My mother, Anne Kanishock Bauder adored Dorothy. I remember Dorothy having a vibrant personality that my mom so admired. My grandfather, Stephen Kanishock was a brother to Dorothy's mother, Mary Dunoski. I do remember visiting the family's home in Hazelton a few times many many years ago (I'm now 67). If I recall, the last time we visited may have been when Dorothy's husband Gene passed away. I don't remember much about what we did while there, only that we sat in the living room talking. It was just my mom and myself. I probably was in my 20's at the time. My brother Jim would have more memories of your family as he is 10 years older than I.

Dorothy sounds like she kept her upbeat personality all through her life. May she rest peacefully knowing that she was loved by so many.

Warmly,
Christine Bauder

I had the pleasure of meeting Dorothy at The Laurel's where I worked in dietary...She was a pure joy and I will always remember her as I had Sheppard's Pie on my weekly menu with no clue on how to make. She guided me thru and the residents loved it!!

A former neighbor, Dorothy was a friend to all. Though she left 2nd & James St. many years ago, whenever we met she was enthusiastic and ever so friendly.

Dorothy was a very lovely woman, she was one of the residents I helped care for at the Laurels. I will always remember our talks and her never getting tired of me asking her questions about crocheting as she was teaching me how do crochet a blanket. I’m so happy we got to visit her twice when we visited America and she was able to meet my wife, she was so happy for us. I’m also so happy I got to show her a picture of my finished blanket that she taught me how to crochet. I will never ever forget her, I just wish we could of saw each other again. RIP Dorthy, you will always be missed and loved ❤

Please accept my deepest sympathies. I met her when my father was at the Laurels. We just started with a hello, then it went from there. She always had a smile for everyone.
