Gail Kathleen “Kathy” Johnson, 69, passed away on August 20, 2023, at her home in Crawfordville, Florida, with her daughters by her side. Kathy was born on July 23, 1954, in Live Oak, Florida to James E. Johnson and Doris E. Johnson. She grew up in Mayo, Florida and was a graduate of Lafayette High School.
Kathy worked for the State of Florida in Human Resources for over 30 years. After retirement, she spent every minute she could with her grandchildren. In fact, she moved to Crawfordville and spent the last 5 years living right next door. She was known as “KK” to them. There was only one thing that she loved more than her family and that was the Lord. She was very strong in her faith and knew she would soon be going home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Kathy was preceded in death by her parents James E. Johnson and Doris E. Johnson, and her grandson Jordan Wayne Maddox.
She is survived by two daughters: Kristy Maddox (Jeff); Hayley Gowdy (Jake); three grandchildren: Shelby Gowdy, Raelyn Gowdy and Kane Gowdy; two sisters: Carolyn Scarabin (Johnny) and Peggy Shiver; one niece: Carrie Young (Steve); and one nephew: Brent Scarabin (Erin).
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Bethel Cemetery in Mayo, Florida. All arrangements are under the direction of Burns Funeral Home of Perry.

Worked with Kathy a short time before she retired. She was such a sweet lady. Stayed in touch through FB. She donated a lot of her Christmas decorations at work, now I´m happy to own a few pieces. You will be surly missed.

I talked with Kathy and text with her numerous times on the last couple of years. We prayed, laughed and even shed some tears together. It was obvious Kathy had strong faith and loved the Lord. We shared our love for grandkids and I'd even say we became close in the last year of her life. I know she will be missed by her family which was everything to her. I will miss Kathy she was so sweet, kind and loving. Rest in peace Kathy and we will meet again one day!

I have fond memories of Kathy (a third cousin), and we had a nice visit at Shell Point in 2020. It was so nice to reconnect and had stayed in touch. Yes, she loved her family so very much. I know she will be missed immensely. Our loss is heaven's gain, and there's no doubt she is with her Lord. Prayers for those who remain.
