Galen "Jim" Chandler Obituary

CHANDLER, Galen "Jim" James
Warren, Mi
(Formerly of Ypsilanti)
Age 65

His Home Going to Heaven was on April 29, 2016 in Troy, Michigan. He was born June 28, 1950, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Rev. Gradon J. and Carla (Porter) Chandler. On February 14, 1992, he married Wendy Vangelder and they celebrated 24 years together. Jim graduated from Willow Run High School in 1968, where he played many high school sports to include wrestling, football and baseball. He furthered his education by obtaining a Bachelors of Arts Degree from Albion College in Economic Business Administration. With his business knowledge, Jim started his own painting company, Galen-James Painting Corp. After he retired from his painting company, Jim continued working part-time at his local Sherwin-Williams Paint Store. He loved golf and was an avid scuba diver and traveled the world doing both. He was a lifelong Church of God member and will always be remembered for his love of God, his family and football (as long as it was Michigan Football, Alabama Football or the Detroit Lions!). Survivors include his parents: Rev. Gradon J. and Carla Chandler; his wife, Wendy Chandler; one daughter Jaime (Steve) Swope; two grandchildren: Hunter Arbogast and Peyton Arbogast; his siblings: Adriel (Naomi) Chandler, Ed (Carla) Chandler, Darla (Jerry) Shepherd and Dorinda (Dave) Moore; Father-in-law and mother-in-law, David and Bonnie Vangelder and brother-in-law, David Vangelder; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his beloved dog, Merlin. A Memorial Service will be celebrated on Monday, June 13, 2016, at 7:00 p.m. at Victorious Life Church of God, 860 E. Clark Rd., Ypsilanti, with his father, Rev. Gradon J. Chandler and Rev. Ed Chandler officiating.

Though we didn't see each other often, I will never forget all the fun we had as kids. When we were in Alabama at the same time,we found so much to do. Riding in the back of his Grandpa's pick-up, chasing chickens in the chicken house, swimming at the local pool, and climbing trees Jim & his brothers taught me how to climb up in the apple tree, to eat around the apple, and leave the core hanging on the tree. We climbed up in the big tree by the road and all of us carved our initials in it (the same tree that our parents used to jump over when they were kids) That tree is gone now and so is Jim. I will never forget the memories, Cuz. Love & prayers to his parents and siblings.

My heart is broken for the family. There has not been one day since this happened that I have not thought of y'all ,you will continue to be in my prayers and thoughts I know there's nothing I can do or say . Jim was an amazing man every time I ever saw him he was smiling and I think every day how amazing it must be for him to be in the presence of our Lord it doesn't feel like it but he is the lucky one
