Gary William Edwards

1948 - 2022

Gary William Edwards, age 74 of Williamsport, IN passed away at 12:59 p.m. on December 23, 2022 at Ascension Williamsport Hospital. 

 

Gary was born in Roanoke, VA on June 16, 1948.  He was the son of William and Roxie (Wimmer) Edwards.  He was raised in Shawville, VA, living in Va until moving to Catlin, IL in 1982.  He later moved to Williamsport, IN.  On March 22, 2010 he married Leann (Mediate) Hewitt and she survives.

 

Gary served in the US Navy.  He worked as a boiler plant maintenance supervisor at the VA in Salem, VA, Danville, IL and St. Vincent Hospital Williamsport, retiring in 2010.  Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He loved gardening and taking care of his yard.

Children, Ricky Edwards of Dublin, VA, Teresa Bobbitt (Fred) of Galax, VA, and Tammy Sharlow (John) of Christiansburg, VA

Step-children, Herby Hewitt of Attica, IN and Ashley Orr (Damen) of Covington, IN

1 brother, Michael W. Edwards (Kathy) of Shawsville, VA

Brother-in-law, Joey Mediate of Attica, IN

Nephew, Jake Mediate of Attica, IN

Niece, Sara Charleton (Max) of Christianburg, VA

9 grandchildren, Kayla, Casey, Nick, Dante, David, Gage, Wes, Claire and Bree

4 great-grandchildren

 

Gary was preceded in death by his parents.

 

Visitation will be at Grady Funeral Home in Williamsport, IN on Friday, December 30, 2022 from noon until service time at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Joshua Barnett officiating and full military honors. Inurnment will be at Highland Cemetery at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Free Methodist Church.
