James Francis Moore, Jr.
James Francis Moore, Jr. (also known as Turtle) joined his blessed Lord on May 3, 2021. He was born April 5, 1964, in Lompoc, California, to Jim and Karen (Janos) Moore. He attended Lompoc schools, was a Cub Scout, and played Little League Baseball on the Moose Team. He also was in the Lompoc High School FFA (Future Farmers of America) raising Santa Barbara County Fair project pigs and Cow Palace project pigs and was on the Ag Mechanics Team.
He was also employed by Joe Avila’s Welding Shop as a welder and helper and drove a tractor for some of the local farmers. He graduated from Lompoc High School in 1982 and shortly thereafter joined the United States Navy, becoming a Hull Technician on the Frigate USS Curtis 38. He was honorably discharged and became an ironworker.
He helped his cousin Joe Costa move to Elko, Nevada, and immediately went to work in Ely, Nevada, working and welding on mining in Winnemucca, Nevada, and later became their welding inspector at Battle Mountain, Nevada, where he worked till his death. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to camp. He was the Vice-President of the Iron Horses & Machinery Club of Nevada and was also a member of the Search and Rescue Organization., the Ham Radio Club, and the Off-Road 4-Wheelers Club.
He is survived by his parents Jim and Karen Moore of Lompoc, California, sister Julie (Bryan) Callaway, New Cuyama, California, brother Craig Moore of Washougal, Washington, two nieces and four nephews.
A celebration of life will begin at 1 pm on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Schuyler’s River Bottom (1214 E. Barton Ave., Lompoc) for family and friends with a barbecue served afterward.
A celebration of life will begin at 1 pm Wednesday, July 28, 2021, with a catered meal at the Winnemucca Convention Center in Winnemucca, Nevada.
Please bring an appetizer, salad, or dessert to share and a favorite photo of you and Jimmy for the photo board.

Jimmy - our middle child (first son)...so shocked of your passing, you were shortened of your earthly life & so sorry you didn't get to enjoy yourself!! I know that you had a difficult early life, but you really turned out to be a "GREAT" guy, friend and son. May God Bless You!!!

We all have been suddenly saddened of the loss of My Brother Jim a.k.a. "Turtle" and you will truly be missed by many of those close family and friends that you had a connection with. I will miss the time we shared growing up and know that I have another "Guardian Angle in the Heavens Above".
