Surrounded by family, Jerry Ronald Checotah, 57, of Fredericksburg, VA, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2019, at the McGuire VA Medical Center in Richmond Virginia.
Often called “Casper” by his father, Jerry was a loving and devoted son, brother, father and friend.
He had a passion for cooking, especially grilling, a true legend in his own mind, “The Master Chef.”
He was a jokester at heart, telling and even laughing at his own jokes before getting to the punch line.
If you were in need, Jerry would give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar without hesitation.
In November 1979, Jerry enlisted in the United States Navy and served onboard the USS Harry E. Yarnell for approximately 2 years.
Preceded in death by his father, Clarence Checotah, Jerry is survived by one son Deon Corde’ Evans Checotah of Dallas, Texas; a special loving friend, Carolyn Johnson of Houston Texas; five bonus children, Lakinya Boatneg of Gainesville, Va., Vanetra Williams of Houston, TX, Valerie Holeman and Christopher Williams, both of Oklahoma City, OK, and Willie Williams of Las Vegas, NV; his mother, Eunice Etoye Gresham of Fredericksburg, VA; his brother, Danny Checotah of Anchorage, AK; and eight sisters, Teresa McCargo of Severn, MD, Phyllis Porter of Litchfield Park, AZ, Sandra Luton and Alicia Cargile, both of Oklahoma City, OK, Cerphenia Bell and Dandzra Gresham-Augustine, both of Fredericksburg VA, Gloria Cook of Centreville, VA, and Jennifer (Janay) Malloy of Fayetteville, NC. He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, December 24, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at A. L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, VA, followed by the funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Interment will be private.

I just want my Aunt Eunice and my cousins to know that my heart is heavy with this loss, but be encouraged that weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning! I know y'all know HIM and know that y'all are going to make it through this trying time. Be blessed!
