Jimmy Akin Obituary
Jimmy Joel Akin age 85, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 in Shawnee.
He was born to Thomas Elisha and Anne Lee (Thomas) Akin on May 25, 1929 in Hollis, Oklahoma. Jimmy grew up in Hollis and graduated from Hollis High School.
After graduation he joined the Air Force and served his Country for 4 years in active duty. He lived in California for 3 years.
He later moved to Oklahoma residing the remainder of his life in the Tecumseh and Shawnee Area.
Jimmy worked at Tinker Field in 1959 and retired in 1985. Jimmy retired as Senior Master Sargent from the Air Force Reserves. He also raised cattle, and ranched for a number of years.
He was a member of The Cattlemen's Association.
Jimmy's family was very important to him, and he showed it by working very hard for them.
He later married Fay Emajean Akin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, T. Fredrick Akin; grandson, Daniel Akin.
Jimmy is survived by his wife, Fay Emajean Akin of Grand Prairie, TX; daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Bill Spurgeon of Edmond, OK, Keren Damaris of Midwest City, OK, and Kay and Kenneth Webb of Shawnee, OK; son, Jimmy David Akin of Newalla, OK; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Fred and Colleen Akin of Shawnee; nephew, Dean Akin of Shawnee; Niece, DeAnna Thomas of Tulsa; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will start 12:00 noon on Monday, September 15, 2014 with Family gathering at 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Service will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, September 16, 2014 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Craig of Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
