Joseph Leonard Clark Obituary

In Loving Memory

Born July 23, 1951 to Curtis M. Clark Sr. and Helen K. Clark, Joseph went home to be with the Lord on October 9, 2017 at the age of 66.  He was preceded in death by both parents, brother (Curtis M. Clark Jr.), sister (Laverne C. Leaks), son (Brian G. Clark), daughter-in-law (Michelle M. Clark), and granddaughter (Arianna Clark).

Joseph accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior at a young age and was baptized at Corinth Baptist Church, Giddings, TX.  He enjoyed attending Sunday school, and as a young adult he became a Sunday School Teacher.  He attended Southwest TX State University, San Marcos, TX and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Sciences.  Upon graduation Joseph accepted a teaching position in the Edgewood ISD, where he taught various subjects including Music, PE, Reading, Math, and worked with children in the Special Education Dept.  Joseph loved Music, but had a passion for working with children with learning disabilities and oftentimes volunteered to tutor them in the computer lab. Joseph retired from the Edgewood ISD after 31 years of service.

In adulthood, Joseph joined Macedonia Baptist Church where he would meet the love of his life, Sister Pam (Johnson) Clark.  They entered into holy matrimony 5 years later and together raised 5 children: Charlie, Brian, Joseph Jr, Kathy and Faith.   His love for music prompted him to join the choir; his passion for teaching lead him to again become a Sunday School Teacher.

Joseph learned work ethics from his parents at a very early age.  On the family farm he learned and enjoyed such skills as breeding cattle, cutting grass, feeding livestock, repairing fences and anything that was broken!  He learned agriculture:  growing okra, collard greens, picking cotton and shelling snap peas.   To his family he was known as a “hard worker who took care of his family.”  Joseph oftentimes worked 2nd jobs as a Security Officer at various construction sites and at Joske’s Department Store.  He started his own business, “Eagle Lawn Service,” and was known for his “generosity,” oftentimes performing lawn work and not charging customers!  He was not given to idleness.  Joseph was known as a “Good Samaritan” to his family, neighborhood and community, oftentimes giving people rides, listening to their problems, and sitting with the elderly at community homes.  He was known to his neighbors as “the neighborhood watchman,” keeping watch over the neighborhood.  According to his family “he could not be still.”

Joseph joined his family at New Life Christian Center in 1986 at the store front.  He enjoyed praise music, particularly the upbeat, hand-clapping, foot-stomping music!  Joseph enjoyed fellowshipping with the Saints, particularly the “man-jams” with the Brothers and attending Christmas Banquets.

Joseph leaves to mourn his passing his wife of 37 years, Sister Pam Clark, two sons (Charlie and Joseph Jr.), 2 daughters (Kathy and Faith), a sister (Novella), his customers, neighbors, and his New Life Christian Center Family.

Mr. Clark and his family have been my neighbors my whole childhood life. The clarks are all like family. Mr.Clark always took the time to talk to everyone and he always had funny stories or lectured me to be nice. I will miss his laugh very much. Joe looked out for everyone in the neighborhood and he saved me from getting in trouble. One time, as a child, I almost set my parents house on fire. joe must have seen through the window and immediately grabbed a rag and unplugged the electric device that was on fire and put a water hose through the window! If it wasn't for him, I would've panicked and not known what to do. Just one example of how joe was always looking out for others. My deepest condolences to all the family. Mr.Clark had a huge personality, a huge heart and many many stories he liked to share! Mr.Clark took with him a piece of our heart and he will never be forgotten.
Love, Rollie

Joe Clark was my neighbor for many years. I remember him as a firm, yet gentle man who loved his family and as a devoted teacher who cared about his students. And how he LOVED to talk! I know that the old neighborhood won't be the same without him. Tracey and I send our most heartfelt condolences and prayers to Pamela, Charlie, J.J., Kathy and Faith. We grieve with you for your loss, and we REJOICE with you in the fact that Mr. Clark is in the presence of GOD at this very moment. GOD'S blessings and comfort to all of you.
