Memorial Services for Kathryn “Kay” L. Hough, age 75, of Fairmont, MN will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 2019 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fairmont. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. Kathryn passed away Friday morning, July 26, 2019 at the Sunset Hospice Cottage in Worthington, MN. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Martin County Humane Society in Kathryn’s honor. The Lakeview Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Fairmont is assisting the family with arrangements.
Kay was born on March 22, 1944 in Akron, Ohio to Dr. Harold and Kathryn Williamson. Kay graduated from Fairmont High School in 1962, and furthered her education at Gustavus Adolphus College where, in 1966, she obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. Kay married James (Jim) Hough in June of 1971, spent most of her career as a public health nurse, and retired from Jackson / Cottonwood County maternal child health in 2010. In 2013 Kay, Jim, and various pets moved to a home on Lake Sisseton in Fairmont—the same lake Kay grew up on, and from which she could see her childhood home across the water.
Kay loved her pets—mostly rescue dogs, with some canaries and one feral-turned-domestic lap cat mixed in. When not caring for her own family (animals and human alike), Kay volunteered at the Martin County Humane Society.
Left to cherish Kay’s memory is her husband James (Jim), her son Brian (Gina) Hough of Fargo, N.D.; her daughter Kathryn (Justin) Egge of Apple Valley, Minn.; siblings Homer (Marilyn) Williamson of Sartell, Minn.; Susan Eisenmenger of Fairmont, Minn.; Harold (Mary) Williamson of Whitefish, Mont.; Roberta (Tim) Kitzman of Maple Grove, Minn.; grandchildren Declan Hough and Aiden Egge; Aunt Harriet Cone; other extended family and friends.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Kathryn Williamson; brother-in-law, Daniel Eisenmenger; mother-in-law, Mary Jensen; and step father-in-law, Wallace Jensen.
