Lessie B. Givens passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2016 in Lansing, Michigan at the age of 83 years. She was born March 22, 1933 in Bradley, Arkansas to Sarah Harris.
Lessie moved from Arkansas at the age of 18 years, and traveled the world, settling in Stockton, California. Lessie was known by her family as “Aunt B”. While residing in Stockton, California she helped to raise her brother Malvin’s children, and became their second mom. She raised Malvin James Young, III and affectionally called him son, referring to his father, Malvin James Young, II as “Aunties Love”. She truly loved her boys. While in Stockton, California, “Aunt B” was a dedicated member of the Eastern Star and Elks Club. “Aunt B” devoted her life to her brother, which she called her “One & Only”, whom she loved dearly, along with his children.
“Aunt B” loved fishing. You could catch her casting out on the banks often (she could out fish anybody). She had a passion for fashion. She sewed some very nice garments. If you were sick, she was the best doctor, she had a remedy for every illness! Using a pinch of this, a dash of that, and a slap of this, and you would be well in no time! She was No. 1 in the kitchen; no one could out do her. “Aunt B” made the best three-layer chocolate cake in the UNIVERSE!!! If you wanted the truth, she was the lady to talk too, always delivering an unfiltered message.
Lessie leaves to cherish her many memories, her ONE & ONLY brother Malvin James Young, SR.; nephew, Malvin James Young, II; great-nephew, Malvin James Young, III; nieces, Marquita Bryant, Mallynda Beatrice Fernando, Lora Batt, Nolonda Alexander, many other relatives and friends.
“Aunt B” was preceded in death by her brother, Walter Jackson.
