Ms. Lucy Wright Obituary

We mourn the loss and Celebrate the Life and Legacy of Ms. Lucy B. Trammell Wright, 81, of Shreveport, La.

MS. LUCY BURTON WRIGHT was born on June 20, 1937 to the union of Presley and Viola Burton in Coushatta, Louisiana. She was one of six children. She moved to Shreveport, Louisiana as a young child.

At an early age, Lucy accepted Christ and was baptized at Old Mary Magdeline Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Richard Keesee Sr. She later united with Morning Star Baptist Church under leadership of Pastor C. L. Townsel where she served as the President of the Pastor’s Aide Committee and taught Sunday School for many years. Lucy remained a faithful member for more than 50 years.

She finished her formal years of education at Booker T. Washington High School graduating in 1957.

Lucy was united in marriage to the late Reverend W.C. Trammell in the late 50’s and to this union six children were born. She later married Curtis L. Wright in the late 70’s.

She retired from Bell South in the early 80’s. Lucy was ambitious and persistent. After retirement pursued her entrepreneurial interest selling Mary Kay, Insurance and Jewelry. She also had a successful career in cosmetology. Soon after she became an educator and went on to receive a degree in Early Childhood Education from Southern University. After working 17 years for Parish Head Start, she retired in 2007.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Presley and Viola Burton; and three sisters, Gertrude, Ada and Rose.

Precious memories will be cherished by her six children, Stanley Burton of Shreveport, Louisiana; Paula (Vincent) Harris of Houston, Texas; Terrance (Anna) Trammell of Shreveport, Louisiana; Rodney Trammell of New Orleans, Louisiana; Jeff Trammell of Atlanta, Georgia and Jackie (Nacho) Lopez of Hampton, Georgia; Ten grandchildren: Greg, Paula, Derrell, Damarcus, Doug, Ebony, Jarred, Aeron, Ariel, and Kerrigan; Five great grandchildren, Ja’Niyah, Nylah, Cameron, Ziya and Kennedi; One brother, Hezzy Burton of Houston, Texas; One sister, Gloria (Calvin) Fuller of Houston, Texas and a host of family and friends.

Lucy had an affectionate smile and to know her was to love her. She loved shopping and fashion and was considered classy, sassy and jazzy whenever she stepped out.

She was a very caring spirit. I remember her giving me a coat one winter when I was homeless with my kids and inviting me and my kids over for Thanksgiving dinner. I will never forget her kindness. The heavens opened and recieved truly an amazing Angel from Earth.
