Ricky Funderburke Obituary

Our beloved Ricky Andre Funderburke, was born on April 1, 1970 in Fort Hood, Texas to the parentage of Robert L. Funderburke and Willena R. Funderburke. He was the eldest of three children, his brothers Edward "Tony" Funderburke, Joseph Funderbuke and sister Vickie R. Funderburke-Pugh. Ricky was the quintessential big brother, devoted husband, committed best friend and defender of all things right, honest and true.
The family moved to the Travis County almost three decades ago where Ricky attended and graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1989. Dell Computer not only yielded a successful career in technology, while working at Dell Computer he met his wife Nicole Rogers in 1993. They later married in 1999 and blended their families to include his son Brian Funderburke and loving daughters Mo Moreland, Raven Wright and Kadisha Wade. To this beautiful union one child was born in 1998, Andrea Mariah Funderburke. Ricky's "girls" were no doubt the apple of his eye! He always ensured that they knew just how special each of them was to him.
He was preceded in death, by Howard Bell, Sr. (grandfather), Howard "Bo" Bell, Jr. (uncle), Willie Maxine Bell (grandmother) and Ronnie Hawkins, Sr. (uncle).
Ricky is survived by his wife Nicole Funderburke, four daughters, son, mother Willena Funderburke, father Robert Funderburke, and three siblings. He also leaves behind numerous relatives and a host of friends whom he loved and never mind showing by always hosting some momentous event at his house. Whether it was a football game, family get together or a crawfish boil, he made sure everyone had a great time.
Ricky loved and adored his wife of 19 years and her devotion to him was equally evident to everyone who knew them. To all who knew Ricky there was no questioning his love for his favorite sports team, if you cheered for any team outside of the Washington Redskins and Michigan Wolverines you were subject to be banned from every watching a game with him again. One could say he was a truly devoted fan! The team that captured his heart for the last two years was "The Texas Storm" a team founded and brought together by Ricky's love and devotion to the sport and supporting his daughter Andrea. His caring and compassionate approach with each team member and their families was manifested in the winning attitude of all his players and those who supported this fabulous team!
Someone so beautiful gave this world a touch of class that could only be delivered by no one other than "Coach Rick & Big Rick."
Visitation will be 4:00PM - 8:00 PM Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at All Faiths - North Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at St. James Missionary Baptist Church - E.M. Franklin Chapel,1812 EM Franklin Ave Austin, TX 78721. Dearest Mrs. Funderburke and Andrea,

We send our deepest sympathy for the loss of Coach Ricky. One of the sweetest people we ever met. We only met him early this year when he welcomed our daughter on the Storm. Please know that the time that he committed to coaching the girls this summer made a major impact on their lives and Raven's heart is heavy. May you know that he is in our prayers but there is no doubt that he is smiling with the Lord today.

May God Bless your family as you face the loss of such a wonderful person.

Mr. Ricky will forever remain with me in my heart even though he is no longer physically with us. He wasn't just a coach or an idol, but he was another father to me and treated me like his own and I will forever love and remember him for that. He was such a great man always going out of his way to ensure that I was okay and always made me laugh and smile. It hurts to know that he isn't coming back, but I know that he is in a better place and I'll make sure me and Drea are successful so we can make him proud.

I am so very devastated by your passing....you were my husband's very best friend. You loved him unconditionally. When we had a success as a family you celebrated it as if it were your own....always a positive thing to say and a strong hand to help. You are a true gentleman. Even as I begin to realize the tremendous loss of your passing to your family, my family and your community....I also see that the world lost a great man. A peaceful loving man. An intelligent and thoughtful person who was successful in business and family. A good friend and mentor. Your children stand as a testament to your gentle kind and responsible nature. They are so precious and special. I love you Rick and I love your entire family.....God Bless
