W. Kent Taylor Obituary

MECHANICSVILLE/MARION

Kent Taylor, beloved son, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away at 4:57 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2020.

Kent was a 1981 graduate of Colonial Heights High School in Colonial Heights, Virginia, and he was a 1985 graduate of Emory & Henry College.  He enjoyed acting in many plays during high school and college and spent a summer during college acting in the Smokey Mountain Passion Play.  Kent’s interest in computers and electronics .  .  .  Seriously?  Who cares about this crap?  An obituary isn’t a resume.  Kent loved cats, his cats, and a few others.  Kent did not love Byron’s and Bruce’s dog Muffin.  He shamelessly danced a jig when Muffin died.  Kent loved the Beatles, home improvement shows on HGTV, The Lord of the Rings, Star Trek, role-playing games, science-fiction, and as one friend said, “other stuff of nerds.”  Kent did NOT love people touching his stuff.  Kent did NOT love people who did not use the English language “good.”  (Haha!)  Kent loved little kids, and they loved him.  Maybe because he was able to maintain a level of happiness and curiosity that eludes most adults.  He loved Disney World, Donald Duck, and Spider-Man.  Most of all, Kent loved his family, the one he was born into and the one he created for himself with his friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother Janice Owens Taylor.

He is survived by his father William A. Taylor of Wytheville, Virginia; sister Kim Taylor Christopherson (Brent) of Kalispell, Montana; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00PM on Monday July 27, 2020 from the Bradley’s Funeral Home Chapel in Marion. Interment will follow in the Rose Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:00PM on Monday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.bradleysfh.com. Bradley’s Funeral Home of Marion is serving the Taylor Family.

A fond farewell to you, brother Kent. You will be missed always. You were my best guide to the places of the War of Northern Aggression (as you always phrased it), and I enjoyed all our trips. Thank you for being nicer to Nan’s cats than me, a finder of alligators in Mechanicsville, a comforter and visitor, with Rose, to Debbie Beeler, and a good example to my children; remembering John wanting to be known as “Little Kent”.

Huge loss for us. Kent was a one of a kind. Quick witted, smart, articulate, and hilarious. He got his humor from his Dad and his enormous heart from his Mom. The rest of him was wholly original. I loved being around him. We bantered, but he always got the better of me. I so want to have an exchange with him now. I know he is now in a much better place. I am comforted that he is being welcomed by my Aunt, my Grandmother, my Dad, Jamie, and many others who loved him so much! I miss you already! Rest easy, William Kent Taylor. Until we meet again!

I worked with Kent years ago. I thought the world of him. I remember going through a tough time and talking to Kent because he was thinking about going through it to. He mentored me and I in turn mentored him. Kent was a wonderful person and will be greatly missed. Susan Hudson

So sorry to hear about Kent's passing. I worked with him at ALE Systems. I always thought he was so witty and also a bit goofy which made him fun to be around. He will be missed, but he did bring joy to my life. I thank God he put Kent in my life, even for a brief time! Praying for comfort for all his close friends and family.

Kent was a much loved “third son” to me. I could depend on him for computer help and for many more things. I am grateful that God brought Kent into our family circle.

My uncle Kent, I will never forget the belly laughs you gave everyone in the room. When I told my friend about Kent’s passing I said “do you remember Kent?” And she said “the Lord of the Rings one?” I wish we could’ve done New Years Eve this year, but at least we got dinner one last time. I love you ❤

Kent had Uncle Bill’s quick, pointed wit and he had Aunt Janice’s loving kind heart. This created a man that was funny and fun to be around but also caring and compassionate. There never seemed to be a topic that Kent couldn’t discuss and usually have you laughing through it all. Kent will be greatly missed but only temporarily, I know we will reunite one day in Heaven. As grandparents passed away, and visits to Marion became fewer and farther between I regretfully have not shared as much time as I would have liked with all my cousins and family but I love each and every one of you. I pray that God grants the family peace, comfort and the Joy of knowing that Kent is rejoicing in Heaven now. ~ Chad

Bill & Kim,
I am so very sorry to hear about Kent's passing. I loved Kent! Who couldn't love Kent? :-) I know this is difficult for both of you but he is spending time with his beautiful Momma now and his Lord above. I bet that was a glorious reunion! May God above wrap his arms around you both providing much comfort and peace. Love you both!
