In youth, your father is a teacher, mentor, and protector. Through the prism of youth you don't always see it that way.

As you grow older and become a parent yourself, you gain new insight and respect for his role in shaping the person you have become. Your relationship shifts to friendship, still heavy on the mentoring.

There are many things that I will miss now that my father, my friend is gone. That gleam in his eye that signaled a one liner was on the way that was sure to fill the room with laughter. Our book club as would recommend books to each other though I became the weak link in that once he retired. Thankfully, I have a list of required reading that should last me for quite a while.

I'll miss our running email conversation which spanned humor politics, and the state of the world. I'll miss being able to consult with him in real time while hunting and fishing; he was a top notch armchair guide.

One of my favorite memories of my father was the time we ran into each other in Tampa, FL. We were both traveling there on business. I sent him a picture of the view from my hotel room. I got a message back saying Guess where I am? Turns out his hotel was in the picture I sent him. We met up at a Bahama Breeze between our hotels. We sat at the bar and laughed deep into the evening. The running joke became You're not in-whatever place one of us was traveling.

I'm sure I'll think of that when I'm traveling, and then I'll remember
More than once over the past few days I have thought, I should ask Dad about that, and then I remember.
I remember that as I mourn the loss, I must also remember to celebrate the life.

I'll miss you Dad, save me a seat.

I worked with Wayne during my short time at BAE. We went on a business trip together with another coworker and I love telling everyone my story of shouting for him to board our plane at the Philadelphia airport. God bless Wayne and the Zahares family.

Remembering my older brother

Wayne was not only my big brother but also,
my role model, best friend and mentor.
Tutoring me with the finer points of fishing,
hunting, water and snow skiing, boat racing,
the passion of car and boat ownership.
Honoring me as my best man at our wedding,
always there when you needed his advice.
A deep thinker, involved with the design of military weapons
whose function he could never talk about.
Respected by all for his quiet approach to life, loyalty,
and his satirical sense of humor.

Remembering all the sunsets we shared over a Coors
in the Keys, New England, the Virgin Isles and California.

Farewell to my hero, my big brother
May you rest in peace!

Your kid brother,
Mike

Hi Gail,
Liz and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Wayne's passing. We're very thankful we got to spend time with you both at the reunion-looking at the old AF pictures, remembering the sweltering summer picnics burning chicken and drinking beer! That brought back many great memories we all helped create at Knob. Fun days! We're praying for you both. Your old friends,

Liz and Tony Frazzetta

I worked with Wayne at BAE, I always tried to get him to let me stamp my own paperwork, he wouldn't let me near that stamp, but it was always fun to tease him about it. He told me when I was taking a vacation to Vegas I should take a ride to see the Grand Canyon, I did and will always be grateful for the tip. May he RIP......

Wayne was my brother-in-law, polar opposite of his younger brother, Mike. He was quiet but opened up once we started drinking. I loved his sarcastic sense of humor, he always cracked me up. We enjoyed a lot of good times with Wayne and Gail, trips together in Florida, New Hampshire, Maine and his visits to California. He was loved and will be missed. Rest in peace, Wayne.

Our hearts are heavy at this difficult time. Wayne will be remembered always by his family and friends but mostly by his amazing wife Gail after 50 years of marriage. It's hard to imagine him gone but we know that he is in a good place and will be smiling down on us all. Deepest condolences to the Zahares and Etheze families.
