Vernon C. Benfield Battle Creek Vernon Cecil (Benny) Benfield, 92, left this world for everlasting life on March 21st at his home with his loving children by his side. Born in Indiana, 1921, the son of Andrew and Sadie (Hamrick) Benfield. He married his beloved Marion (Bordner) in Clarion, Pennsylvania on May 1, 1943. She preceded him in death on May 8, 1992. After graduating Battle Creek High School Class of 1939, he served honorably in WWII before spending his working career at Eaton Manufacturing. He is survived by his children Diane Wood, Nancy Douglas, and Philip Benfield; sisters Betty Mathews, Shirley Rocho; brother Jackson Benfield; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and leaves behind many fond memories in the lives he touched. Benny was an avid fisherman and an active member of the YMCA for many years. He enjoyed long walks and winters in Florida. Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, March 25, 2013 at Floral Lawn Cemetery Chapel with arrangements by Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
