McAllister, Nancy (Oswalt)
Nancy (Oswalt) McAllister Nancy (Oswalt) McAllister, quietly and comfortably passed away on March 8, 2015. She has resided in Branch, Michigan at her eldest daughter's home for the past 9 years during her battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Nancy was born in Cadillac to Clerence and Esther (Graham) Oswald on January 10, 1938. She grew up with siblings Richard, Robert, Sharon, Linda and David. Nancy was closest to her sisters and they would spend time relaxing and most of all laughing together. Toni (Bob) Burke, Thomas Barber (September 15, 1959 - October 19, 2013), Tenelle (Michael) Cassel and Jason (Kimberly) McAllister all thought of Nancy as a loving, devoted and hard working mother. Nancy taught her children good work ethic and to keep their things nice. She always explained things simply and matter of fact. If someone were to ask Nancy about her children, her face would glow, her smile would be wide, and there would be a dancing twinkle in her eyes. Nancy was also loved by her many grandchildren, Ami and Heather, Ryan Dean, Brandon and Morgan, Adam, Elizabeth, and Ryan. They have fond memories of helping grandma bake, reading stories together and taking walks. "Grandma would do whatever we wanted to do!" all of them would say. Nancy had many great grand children, in-laws, nieces and nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but not forgotten. The JC Penney Company in Battle Creek was where Nancy worked for 20+ years. She spoke fondly of all her friends from Penney's and thought of them as her family. Vivian, Brenda, Miss Bessie, Rose, Mariette and Issac (plus a few we can't remember their names) were the ones dear to Nancy's heart. Nancy enjoyed early morning conversation and walks around the mall before her shift began everyday. She also enjoyed meditation and yoga. When Nancy was not working she enjoyed spending time grooming, walking and riding her horses. She could be found either in her chair or out in the barn brushing her cats or any other stray that would allow it. Animals were naturally drawn to Nancy and she was as equally drawn to them. She would find animals to pet anywhere she went. She loved meeting new people and remembered details about everyone and expected you did too. Nancy also loved walking through gardens, talking with family or friends while sipping on a hot cup of tea or an expensive glass of wine. Standing in Nancy's yard, loved ones could enjoy the countless humming birds feeding and flying around. She loved camping all throughout her life. Every year she relaxed with "the girls" in either Mexico or Jamaica. Day trips around Michigan were a favorite of hers year round. She knew where every ice cream stand was in our mitten state! Her culinary skills were that of Iron Chefs and her apple pies were legendary. We have yet to master them! But the most favorite of all was when family and friends gathered for holidays or just because. Laughter was alway loud, smiles were bright and good food was enjoyed by all. Nancy will be greatly missed by all who loved her and by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Our lives were impacted by her great love, never failing support, endless encouragement, incredible strength, practical advice and terribly told jokes. Nancy wanted her body donated to science so others may learn more about Alzheimer's Disease. A celebration of her life will be held in early summer in Battle Creek.
